Michael stepped closer. “And your deal with the Feard and me? If we channeled power to you to re-establish the three realms, you were to sleep.”

Ohngel nodded. “I made the agreement in good faith. Indy woke me. I don’t know how.”

Michael waved a dismissive arm through the air. “The OneCreator is pissed, my friend. A millennium of sleep was your punishment, but you are a lucky bastard. It seems he is more upset with Gahya and Gabriel. Still, he is calling in the debt owed by your female.”

Ohngel threw a confused glance at Indigo. “You owe the OneCreator?”

“I told you. He gave me a dumbass puzzle to solve. If I did, I owed him.”

“It’s an ironclad deal,” said Michael. “What’s worse, he feels bested. His pride is at stake. He never expected your female to figure out the conundrum. He took her for a fluffhead.”

Indigo tapped Ohngel’s arm while she glared at Michael. “Let me witch bolt him. A hot one to his balls.”

Michael’s wings snapped out. “Not my description of you. Straight from the OC’s mouth. Leave my balls out of this.”

Ohngel fixed on her violet eyes. “What debt do you owe, Indy?”

“We should discuss this in private. In bed with cheese, crackers, a few bottles of wine.”

Ohngel’s heart skipped a beat. His mate had done something crazy. Even immortals did not pit themselves against the OneCreator and live.

Michael cocked his head toward the witch. “She owes him. Her payment is your destiny as well as your revised punishment.”

Ohngel ran his fingers through Indigo’s loose silky hair. To Michael, he said, “Whatever it is, she will not pay. As far as destiny is concerned, it’s bullshit for the masses. I quit. I choose to stay on Scath. I am my own fate. I’ll not be prey for the OneCreator’s whims. I’ll be my own destroyer. My own creator. My own judge and jury. Will I fail? Sometimes. But with Indigo beside me, I’ll pick myself up and do what is right. I’ll become better. Not perfect. Better.”

“Before such lofty declarations, my friend, you should hear her debt, her agreement.”

Ohngel glared at Indy, fear rattling his bones for the first time in his eternal existence.

She jammed a booted toe into the snow, wiggling it around, delaying her explanation. “The original Guardian of Time, the reader of the River Am, gave me the brio of life. It was mine to pass on. And I did. Willingly.”

Ohngel stared, unbelieving. “You offered the OneCreator your death to awaken me early? Are you insane?”

“It’s been said I am. At least I get to see you a little while longer. To hear you say you love me was worth it.”

“Oh, Indy. What have you done? How long did he give you?”

“A week.”

He spun toward Michael. “If I return with you, will her debt be paid? The OneCreator surely owes me for my service.”

“He owes you nothing, but he has sent a message. He never intended for the Aeternal’s debt to be paid with her life. He intended for her to give you up and continue being the Guardian of Time until the day she passed on the duty. So here is the OC’s deal. You return home with me. Forsaking your female is the punishment for your interference. Your separation is also the price of her debt. You will live. Your witch will live. It is the best you’ll get.”

Ohngel put a palm over Indigo’s mouth, effectively stopping any bravado from leaving her lips. He bent to kiss her.

A breathless Indy pulled away. “Can I refuse to honor my deal? Can you refuse your punishment?”

“Yes,” said Ohngel. “The OneCreator requires debts be paid willingly. Though there will be a price to pay. May we be alone to consider?”

“No.” Michael’s eyes rolled up as if he listened to a voice.

Indy slipped her hand through the crook of Ohngel’s arm. “Does bright boy have earbuds?”

“Kind of.”

“What music does he like?”

Ohngel grinned. Goddess, he did love this female. “Alternative, I think.”
