"Oh, not much. I haven't been home very much, so I think it's time I restocked the kitchen and cleaned up a bit."

"I see." He looked at me closely. "Have you been keeping company with that good-looking fellow?"

"Um, maybe? Yes? If you mean Dominic."

"Sure. Let's say I mean Dominic."

"Is he a good man?"

"Very good, Mr. Kruger. I'm sure he's just like you were at his age."

He grunted again, crunched the apple and I think I even saw a little smile.

"Well, you be nice to that young man. Don't break his heart now. If he's nice like me, he'll never break yours."

I smiled. I was also pretty sure Dom wouldn't break my heart on purpose. "I won't, Mr. Kruger."

"And don't be afraid to take any chances, you know? Love is important in life. When you find the one, hold on to him!"

I giggled. Now I'm taking love advice from an old man. "Okay, Mr. Kruger. I'll think about it."

He started going down the stairs. "Don't think too long. Just do!" He grunted again as he waved his arm in the air, the apple core perched in his hand. "I love this apple!" he cried as he continued down the street.

Oh, Mr. Kruger. What a man.

I unlocked the door and walked in, putting down my bags. Cassie was sitting at the table having a snack.

"Hey! You're back with some goodies. You should have told me. I would have met you there," she said in between crunches of apple from last week's haul.

"Yeah, I should do that next time. I just thought I would swing by there on the way home. You going out tonight?"

"Yeah, a bunch of my friends and I are going clubbing. Do you want to join us?"

"Nah, thanks. I'm feeling like a night in would do me good." I started to unpack the fruits and vegetables, putting some in the fridge and some out on the counter.

"Oh my god, what amazing peppers you found!" Cassie squealed. "They are so sweet. You missed it last time because you were with Dom." She added the last part of the sentence in a mocking tone.

I laughed. "Yes, I was just thinking that you've been doing a lot of your own cooking lately. I'll try to be better and at home more."

"Oh, shit, no. You do you. I'm happy doing whatever. If you're happy and want to spend time with Dom, go ahead. He's a busy guy and I know that you don't get a lot of together time at the office." If she only knew what we did on that chair that one time.

"Yes, he's very busy, but he always seems to make time for me."

"He's such a great guy." Cassie leaned on her hand, looking out at me wistfully. "So, Calla, do you think he's the one?"

I chuckled. "I don't know. How do you know?"

"Well, everyone says that you 'just know'. I don't know what that means because apparently I haven't found the guy. I'm still too busy having fun. I'm sure it will hit me when I'm more in the mood to settle down."

"Yeah, I don't think I'm there yet either." I lied. It's not that I was ready to settle down, but I kind of felt like Dom had the potential to be the one. Or was he the one, and I was just being stubborn and holding out? He did already tell me that he thought he loved me.

So, why can't I love him back? Or tell him I love him back?

"Cass, I have something to confess."

"What?"

"Dom told me that he thinks he loves me." Cass' eyes grew wide.
