Jake goes to his twin right away, hugging her tightly before saying hi to Rachel and Sam. Jamie follows, and they all turn to face me. Jake takes his laptop out of the backpack he brought and opens it on the kitchen island.

“Do I want to know what you did to piss off the Wolves?” he asks, looking down at his screen.

My brother isn’t just a pretty face. He’s a computer genius who became a millionaire by selling apps to companies. If someone can retrieve that CCTV video, it’s him.

“I took ownership of the hotels they used to wash most of their money. It also happened to be the place they used for their sex trafficking. They held auctions there and occupied some of the rooms all year long as a luxurious brothel.”

Jake looks up at me and cocks an eyebrow. “Is that what you’re using those hotels for?”

I feel my eyebrows pinch. “Will you stop wasting my time?” I snap. “Of course not. I’m washing my money there. Using the hotels as a hub to receive stocks from my suppliers. I don’t deal in humans. Now fucking get to it.”

“Alright.” He focuses on the laptop. “Let’s find your wife, I guess.” Tapping on the mouse pad, he types for a few seconds and says, “Where was she when they took her?”

After I tell him, he spends twenty or so minutes typing on his laptop, muttering nonsense to himself, and huffing like an old man. The longest twenty minutes of my life. I keep pacing around the room, aware of Sam’s gaze on me. He knows I’m bound to explode at some point.

“I’m in,” Jake says suddenly. My ears perk up, and I practically sprint to his side of the island. Rose comes too, standing right beside me.

He’s on a server that has hundreds of videos from a security camera. They’re the same thing, the parking lot of the shop where Emma got shot and Kay taken.

“So that’s the shop one. Was it today? Around what time?”

I nod. “Just after lunch.”

I lean closer, my eyes squinting as he goes through the dates.

I’m coming, little sunflower. I’ll find you. You just hold on, please. Hold on for me.

He finds today’s videos, scrolls through the different times, and my heart freezes, turning to stone.

“It’s gone,” Jake murmurs. “It’s been deleted. Let me try the ATM.”

He does the same thing with the ATM’s server.

“Deleted,” my brother says.

“No.” I push him out of the way, scrolling through the videos. “No, no, no.”

I open one video, then another. All the ones for today. The CCTV goes from an empty parking lot at twelve p.m. and the next video is of the cops at the crime scene.

“I can look into anything near this shop. Is there another place that could have security cameras?”

“There’s a gas station not far. Another minute by car.”

My brother nods. “Let me find it. If they went that way, we might be able to see their car.”

The gas station has multiple cameras, even one facing the road that watches all the cars go by. But at that time of day, even in that small town, there were at least twenty cars that went by. How am I meant to know which one it is? I watch them one by one. Jake even zooms in as much as we can. Nothing tells us if Kay is in one of those.

I spin around, turning to my sister. I don’t want to do this. I didn’t want to bring up moments that almost killed her, but I have no choice.

“Ozy,” I rasp. Her eyes widen when she understands what I want. She takes a few steps back.

Sam is onto me right away. “No. Nate, no.”

Rachel follows, taking my sister’s hand. “She doesn’t know anything. There’s no need to talk about it.”

“Ozy, please. You must have seen something. You must have heard things. Places they hide. Safehouses. A different compound. I’m begging you.”

The Wolves held my sister for almost two years. Why? Because she’s the one who shot Vladimir Volkov. The same man I was accused of killing and sent to prison for. We were all there that night. Vladimir was holding me at gunpoint for the same reason the Wolves and the Cosa Nostra have always fought. Territories, businesses, money.
