Gorgo sprinted toward the group, his face drenched with sweat, panting.

“Where have you been?” Michael’s tone was laced with concern.

“Levia escaped when my … that beast broke through the wall. I’ve been killing the demon soldiers with my potion and chasing after Levia. But she’s long gone.”

“She’s a coward.” Dawn gritted her teeth. “She has no allies. She’ll be hiding for a while.”

“What of Markane, Abacus, and Nadira?” Michael asked.

“I passed through the room not too long ago. The uncles are keeping her hidden and safe. I told them to stay there since the battle was outside the castle.”

“Gorgo, it’s good to see you’re alive, but there’s no time to chat.” Michael extended his wingspan. “Time to bring down Asmodeus.” He punched to the sky.

Gorgo raised his hands to Tank like a child that wanted to be picked up.

“Fine.” Tank rolled his eyes and gripped him by the back of his shirt.

Snow and the team flew, except for the vampires who traveled in quick fluid speed, and they landed behind Joleen, in time to witness Victus giving Asmodeus a flurry of punches to his face. The beast stepped on the stream of hot lava and collapsed to his knees. The animals on him jumped off and scurried away.

Run, little friends. Find shelter. Thank you for your help. You’ve done your job well.

The beast snarled and swiped his arms as he crawled on his knees, having difficulty standing upright.

“Surrender!” Victus’s voice boomed, standing beside Joleen.

The beast pulled up to his knees and waved a long arm. “Look around you, crown prince. I’m winning. The Netherworld has come. This is my kingdom now.”

“All your soldiers are dead,” Joleen said. “And so are your demon spirits.”

“Are you sure?” The beast pushed up to stand. “You need to look again.”

Sure enough, demon spirits rose out of the lava from all directions, as if he had resurrected all the ones who were killed by words alone. They all looked alike with half of their body in skeletal form and the other half burning in flames. They were completely surrounded and soon, lava would consume where they stood.

“I will renew this world,” Asmodeus’s guttural beastly voice boomed as thunder cracked. He pounded his chest. “Join me and you shall not perish.”

Sunshine and Midnight hid under Snow’s silver hair, trembling.

Michael standing beside Snow held her hand. “If we make it through this, I want you to come with me. Think about it.”

Snow just looked at him and said nothing. His warmth gave her some comfort as more demon spirits drew closer.

“This is where we say goodbye.” Kristoff gave a curt nod. “The three of us need to check up on our sentinels dispersed around the castle. Until we meet again.” He dipped his head, then before anyone could get a word in, the three vamps moved like a blur.

“Cowards,” Snow murmured.

“Get ready.” Tank rolled his shoulders. “Ssi-bal. Here they come.”

Chapter Fifty

White Fire

Joleen

I believed light would always conquer darkness, and I felt invincible, for I am a Seraphim. One of the greatest warriors, and would always be, for my kind were more powerful than other supernatural beings. But at this moment, I felt hopeless and tiny as the mice on Snow’s shoulders.

I had failed the humans. Had failed my comrades and family. Mostly, I had failed myself. But this couldn’t be the end. I held a special power that Rafael had suppressed all these years, and for the love of Saving Grace I would find it. I had to.

I raised my arms to the beast, pouring my anger, despair, and mostly love for life into my heart and soul. Hot tingling sensations coursed through my veins and bones and I began to glow like the sun. Brighter still, comparable to the speck of white fire soaring across the horizon like the birth of a new star.
