Snow rose next to Otis, who stared up at the apple tree. Maybe he needed to refill? The squirrel scurried up the tree trunk and the two mice stirred awake.

“Thank you for everything.” Abagail gave everyone a hug and one last one for me. She told me she loved me and went with Gorgo, Kyle in his arms, to their wagon parked in the front of the house.

“Time for us to leave.” Markane gave a curt bow. “Michael, we’ll look after your sister. Stay safe.”

“I hope you find some peace and have an amazing adventure.” Otis took a couple of apples from between his feathers.

I clapped Markane’s shoulder. “Tiny Dick.”

Markane scowled.

Then I smacked Abacus’s back. “Small.”

Abacus hissed, then snorted.

I gave a smug grin. “Thank you for looking after the people.”

“Extra-large, safe travels.” Markane gave a curt nod.

“Until we meet again.” Abacus dipped into a bow.

The two vampires dashed away in their lightning speed to their wagon.

I smiled at the great warriors before me. “Well, I had planned to leave tomorrow, but I think I’m leaving tonight.”

I disliked the OA, but the ones in front of me I respected and trusted with my life.

“Are you sure you don’t want to join us?” Dawn released her red wings, the moonlight glowing around her fiery hair.

“I think he made his mind up a long time ago.” Otis shuddered his feathers, his locks doing the same, and tossed me an apple. “For the road.”

Tank crossed his arms, his chest puffed bigger than necessary. “Be careful out there. Trust no one. There are many watchers and OA warriors, and they are no angels.”

Snow hadn’t told me she would go with me so I assumed she planned to stay with her team.

“My lady. Stay well. I shall miss you.” I took her hand and planted a soft, wet kiss at the most sensitive part of her wrist.

I wanted to show her what she would be missing. I could have sworn I heard her whimper.

When Sunshine and Midnight let out squeaks and whipped their tails, I patted their heads. “Please be safe and keep an eye on Snow for me.”

They wiggled their whiskers in response.

I straightened and placed a fist to my heart. “Stay well, my friends. It’s a beautiful night. I’m going to walk for a while.”

Dawn, Snow, Tank, and Otis placed their fists to their hearts and watched me walk backward, then forward.

I strolled past the home we all built together, a symbol of unity, a new beginning, and new hopes and dreams. A shadow cast over me and arms locked behind me from my back, and I was levitating off the ground.

I knew her scent and knew who held me, so I didn’t fight it. Only one person could make me melt into a puddle just by a simple touch. I couldn’t be happier she had come to give me one last goodbye.

“Michael, it’s me. Do not fear.” Snow’s warm breath brushed the shell of my ear, wings flapping stirred a soft breeze around us.

I spun at the same time my wings flashed open. She gasped at the speed I moved. Our feathers pressed together and I wrapped her inside a cocoon.

“If your invitation is still open …” She bit her bottom lip as she ran a hand down my chest, halting at the button of my pants. “I would like to see what you mean by extra-large.”

Her playful tone sparked something wild inside me.
