“Okay,” Cannon said slowly, caution edging his tone.

Hawk skimmed his fingers along her arm. “Go ahead. We’re all ears.”

She wiggled against him, though she knew she shouldn’t. “Clearly, you aren’t. I feel things that definitely aren’t ears.”

“Dev…” Cannon groaned.

“Okay, okay. Sorry.” She squeezed shut her eyes. Took a deep breath. “Back when you met me, I knew you were interested—”

“Still are,” Cannon interrupted.

“Okay,” she breathed, a tickle of relief prickling goosebumps over her. “What I meant is, I knew back then, too. Why else would you both jump to protect me and basically let my problems consume every part of your lives? Unless you have some weird hero complexes, and you do that for any damsel in distress.”

“We want to be your heroes. Just yours,” Hawk assured her, pressing his lips to her forehead in that way she’d come to love since the time he’d first done it.

Maybe, she wasn’t the only one who’d felt they’d reached a turning point. The guys had never been this forthright with their feelings about their odd situation.

“I was only nineteen,” she whispered.

“What?” Hawk asked. “You were only nineteen when you had to run?”

“No. I mean when I met you guys. Yesterday really was my birthday, but I’m not as old as you both think. Thought. I’m a lot younger than you.”

“Not that much younger,” Cannon scoffed. “You’re like what, then? Twenty?”

“Twenty-one.”

Hawk hugged her, his low chuckle rumbling against her chest, tightening her nipples to painfully needy knots. “It’s a five year difference. No big deal. It’s not that much, baby girl. Sure, we thought you were closer to twenty-five, but as long as you’re legal, I don’t give a fuck.”

“Me, either,” Cannon assured her. “You’re ours. And whenever you’re ready, we’re yours.”

The declaration flooded even more warmth through her than the confirmation of their interest had a few minutes ago.

“It’s just… I don’t want to put you in danger by involving you even more in my problems. When they find me—”

“If,” Hawk growled.

“When… If… I don’t want either of you getting hurt.”

“It’s too late for that, don’t you think? We’re already in. All in.” His grasp around her tightened even more, sending forbidden waves of pleasure tumbling down her limbs.

Cannon sat up, so he could look down at her. “I guess the question is, do you want us, sweetness? Do you want to be ours—even if you’re not ready for sex and stuff. You’re a virgin, so we can wait as long—”

She shook her head. “I’m not. Not a virgin, I mean.”

“What?” they both asked, and she flushed, an uncomfortable heat burning in her face and upper body.

“Th-they—the associates of my stepfather—wanted my virginity. There was no way I’d let them have it. Two days after I ran away, when I thought I was safe, at least for the night, I hooked up with a random guy I met. It was fast—in a rest-stop bathroom. I’m pretty sure he thought I was a prostitute, and he had no idea I was a virgin. It was…kind of awful. Absolutely, awful actually. I felt dirty. Especially considering what I was running from.”

“Oh, baby girl,” Hawk murmured, sitting up and pulling her into his lap, enveloping her in his warmth. Cannon moved in close beside them. “If you let us, we’ll erase all your bad memories. We’ll make you feel so good. So cherished. You’ll never have to guess about how special you are to us.”

She smiled softly, his determination pushing back the sour memories that had infiltrated the moment. “I already know. You both show me all the time. I feel a little guilty about it.”

Hawk brushed his lips over her temple, his arms banded loosely around her waist. “You haven’t seen anything yet.”

“You’re talking about sex,” she guessed.

“Well, yeah,” Cannon laughed.
