“You can’t leave them here, though. Can you drive out to our place?”

He shook his head and nodded to a nearby pickup. “I had planned to, since I was only stopping for directions, but that’s my ride. Truck’s yours. There’s a letter. Hang on.” He took back the clipboard after she’d signed, then pulled out a thick business-sized envelope and handed it over. “That should tell you everything. Have a good night.”

They stared after him as he jogged over to the waiting truck, then she looked down at the letter. Sliding a nail under the flap, she opened the envelope. Inside were bills of sale, vehicle titles, and a short note written in bold black script.

Ms. Greeley,

Consider this recompense for what was taken from you. All paid for with former Baranov funds.

I wish you a good life.

“Recompense for what was taken from me?” she murmured.

Hawk took the note and scanned it. He shrugged. “Who can tell what he meant?”

“Not me. I guess we should get going. We’ll have to get the horses settled before we can turn in tonight.” Cannon nodded toward the truck.

“Uh-huh,” Dev answered, not moving as they stood beneath the streetlamp and she stared at the paperwork. When she came to the summary sheet that listed the names of the animals, her hands started shaking so hard the papers rattled. Her knees buckled, and she sank to the pavement before either man could catch her.

“They’re mine,” she cried, her heart barely able to believe this had happened. How? How had Zoran found them? “They’re mine. They’re my horses that Walter sold.”

“What?” Hawk asked, holding her. He glanced back at the trailer. “Wow. I…”

He fell silent, clearly having no words. She didn’t know what to say, either. She’d been given back the last piece of her life that had been stolen from her, a part she never thought would be returned.

And now, it was time to stop looking at the past.

Slowly, she got back to her feet, the men helping her.

“Let’s get them home,” she whispered. However, she hugged the guys to her before they could move. “Kiss me first, though. You helped do this. Thank you.”

“We didn’t do anything,” Cannon protested.

“You did. You endured almost losing your found family. Hawk faced his past. You both rushed into danger to get me. You made some sort of deal with Zoran—”

“If that’s what you want to think, baby girl,” Hawk chuckled. “But we’re not superheroes.”

“Maybe not, but you’re my heroes. Always there for me. Always protecting me. Always loving me.”

“Always,” the men both growled, going in for a three-way kiss that quickly grew heated.

“I love you,” Dev gasped when they came up for air, foreheads together, their arms around each other, their circle of forever. Her forever. And as they declared their love, too, horses quietly whinnying nearby, Dev’s world finally felt completely right, completely home. And she knew that feeling was there to stay.

Epilogue Two

Five Years Later

Waking with a head between her thighs was nothing new, but Devon would never complain about it.

Except right then.

“No, no, no,” she moaned, shoving at Hawk’s head.

“Baby girl, gotta have my morning snack.”

“No, stop. Stop.”
