Though I can’t deny that I’m going to thoroughly enjoy taking her as my wife. I’ve wanted to sink my cock into that gorgeous body of hers since I first laid eyes on her. She’s going to be a good wife, my very own perfect mafia princess. And best of all, she’s going to be all mine.

CHAPTER 4

Arianna

Tarina wasted no time adding me to the event planning team. I woke up to a flurry of emails this morning, containing information on the venue, task lists, vendors to hire, and so much more. I dove in with a sense of excitement I haven’t felt in a very long time—if ever.

Some time later, Ginevra pokes her head inside my room, her blond curls swaying. “Is your new boss really making you work on a Friday night? What happened to that whole nine to five idea?”

“I’m just getting caught up on everything, I don’t officially start until Monday. However, I doubt I’ll only be working nine to five.”

“Well to celebrate your new job, Papa suggested we all go out to dinner tonight.”

I rub my bleary eyes and glance at the clock, surprised that it’s already after five in the evening. “Actually, I have a date tonight.”

“Oh my god, you do?” Gin fully steps into my room. “Who’s it with? Is he handsome? Is this your first date? Tell me everything.”

I shake my head at her excitement, and blush. “Yes, it’s a first date. His name is Connor Bane.”

Her jaw nearly drops to the floor. “Bane as in the Bane billionaires?”

“Yes.” Heat spreads from my cheeks to my chest. “Now if you don’t mind, I need to start getting ready. Give my apologies to Papa.”

“Do you know what you’re wearing? Can I help?” She’s a frenzy of energy as she heads straight into my walk-in closet and begins pulling out potential outfits.

I groan. “Gin, can we take it down a notch?”

“Absolutely not. This is not just your first date with Connor Bane, but the first time you’ve even been on a date, isn’t it?” She doesn’t wait for an answer before she starts gathering heels to go with each dress. “You’re finally taking advantage of the freedom Papa promised us. This is huge. Can’t you see that?”

Hesitantly, I nod. Really, I do see what she’s so excited about. After everything that our eldest sister Sophia went through with her arranged betrothals, Papa had a change of heart. He decided to break tradition and allow us to choose our own husbands.

No more arranged marriages for the Pontrelli family. We’re free to date whomever we want.

Suddenly, I’m nervous. Gin’s right, I haven’t done this before. What if I make an idiot of myself in front of Connor? Are there certain rituals to follow, or rules to know? I really should have researched this instead of going in blind. I’ve just been so busy with finding a job.

Too late now. He’s picking me up in less than an hour.

“Iknow I’ve already told you this, but you look absolutely stunning tonight.” Connor’s brilliant blue eyes sweep over my face before briefly dropping to my cleavage.

I straighten in my chair, enjoying his appreciative glance. Ultimately, Gin and I decided this dark green silk dress looked best on me. She said it brings out the green in my hazel eyes.

“You look amazing too,” I tell him as I sip champagne. He’s a sight to behold in that tailored suit that emphasizes his broad shoulders. His deep cerulean shirt matches his eyes so perfectly that the choice seems intentional.

I keep getting lost in his stunning blues. They’re so vivid, if I didn’t know any better I’d think they were colored contacts. But the Big Apple Buzz did an article a few weeks back that included childhood photos of Connor and his eyes were the same color then as they are now.

I’m sure that’s partly why he’s such a successful model. Those eyes paired with his short, dark brown hair is a stunning contrast. He’s difficult to look away from.

“So, tell me more about your new job. I’m actually a member of Leonidas, so it sounds like I might see you around the club.” He’s so relaxed, at ease, that my nerves begin to settle.

“I officially start next week, and I know it will be hard work, but I can’t wait. I’m so excited. And it would be nice to see you at the club, but as an employee I’m only supposed to interact with members in an official capacity.” I offer him an apologetic smile.

“Ah, I see. Well then, I guess we’ll have to keep our dates a secret from your boss.”

Our dates? Plural? Does that mean he wants to see me again? Warmth expands in my chest.

Connor Bane is everything I want in a man. He’s kind, attentive, sophisticated, and easy on the eyes. His attention is focused on me and I feel that his interest is genuine. Plus, he’s not part of any organized crime family. The Banes are powerful, but by entirely legal means, as far as I know.

It’s refreshing. He embodies the future that I crave.
