Persy wasn’t sure what it had been, apart from having knocked every other thought from her head but having Casper’s lips claiming and devouring hers. Again and again.

“Yep,” she confirmed briskly. “I’m guessing seeing the crash site has made him realize he might have been killed and how far this situation has gone beyond his control. Which, I’m guessing, isn’t a usual occurrence for him. The broken arm and having to be driven around isn’t helping with those feelings of inadequacy.”

She was pretty sure the latter was true, but she was equally as certain that hadn’t been the reason Casper kissed her. It hadn’t been a punishing kiss, which it surely would have been if that was his motivation. Instead, Casper’s lips had initially been questioning, only turning heated after she gave no resistance.

That part, Persy knew, was completely on her.

She hadn’t dated since her last year at school. She hadn’t felt comfortable doing so in the military, too aware that if the relationship didn’t work out, she still had to work with those same guys every day. Since leaving the miliary she hadn’t felt in the least tempted to go on a single date, and she considered the men she worked with at Kingston Security as off-limits as her fellow soldiers had been.

If anything, Casper was even more off-limits, and yet she hadn’t been able to resist having his lips devouring hers.

Jeff shrugged. “Sounds reasonable, boss.”

“Are you mocking me?”

His eyes widened to innocent blue orbs. “Not at all.”

She punched him lightly on the arm he had resting on the open window. “Let’s get him back to the safety of the estate.” She straightened. “I’m going to need a full pot of coffee to get through the rest of today.”

She certainly needed something. She just wasn’t sure coffee was going to take her mind off Casper’s mind-blowing kiss.

He shouldn’t have kissed Persephone.

Shouldn’t have held her.

Shouldn’t have molded every soft inch of her body against his much harder one.

He certainly shouldn’t have pressed his aroused and throbbing cock against the heat of her mound.

An arousal which simply refused to abate during the long and uncomfortable minutes it took to drive the rest of the way to the estate.

Casper certainly wasn’t in any condition to be waylaid by a six-months-pregnant Remy the moment he let himself into the main house. “I’m going upstairs,” he excused as he hastened to the wide staircase leading up to the second floor and their individual suites of rooms.

“Casper?”

He reluctantly paused in ascending the stairs two at a time to look over the banister at the two women standing below, one his beautiful dark-haired and blue-eyed sister-in-law, the other his beautiful red-haired and golden-eyed bodyguard.

He did his best to ignore the latter, knowing that Sinclair would kill him if he upset Remy in her condition. He snorted inwardly. Sinclair would kill him if he upset Remy for any reason or under any circumstances.

He deliberately didn’t look at Persephone. “I’m okay,” he assured Remy. “There’s just something urgent I need to…deal with.”

“Is it anything I can help you with?” Persephone offered evenly.

He scowled, knowing from the mocking expression on her face that she knew exactly what his problem was. The temptation was strong to invite her upstairs to help him with the demanding throb of his cock. The only thing stopping him was the knowledge it would cause more complications than it solved.

“No, thanks,” he dismissed tersely. “Remy, this is Persy Jones, a Kingston Security employee and currently one of my bodyguards. My lead bodyguard.” His gaze narrowed at the lack of surprise on Remy’s face. “But then you already knew that, didn’t you?”

Remy smiled. “Sinclair might have mentioned it before he left for work this morning.”

“Well, he didn’t mention it to me until I was ambushed with it,” Casper snapped.

Remy gave an unconcerned shrug. “You haven’t been your usual cheerful and approachable self recently.”

“I was almost killed in a car crash a week ago!”

“Exactly,” his sister-in-law nodded calmly. “Which was why Sinclair thought it was much better to present you with an already-settled situation.”
