Thomas breathed in and realized he had been starting to hyperventilate, the air filling his lungs easing a pain he hadn’t noticed. “I don’t remember anything after that,” he murmured. “I’m sorry.”

“That’s okay, Thomas,” Seong told him, squeezing his hand again. “You did great. Better than I thought you would. Someone drugged your soda and the drug they used is a bastard of a date rape. It’ll wipe out an entire night if they get enough of it into you. The fact that you remember that much is a good thing.”

“How- how did they do it?”

Silently, Seong reached down and picked up the mug, offering it back to Thomas. “Those aren’t your winter boots right?”

Thomas frowned at him then looked over towards the door where a pair of boots had been placed neatly by the door. “No, they-”

“Look in the mug,” Seong interrupted him.

Looking down, Thomas blinked at the a small ball now floating in what remained of his water and ice. It hadn’t been there before, he was sure of it.

“Rohypnol,” Seong continued, resting his head on his arm as he turned slightly to face Thomas, “is tasteless, nearly colorless, and terrifyingly easy to slip into a drink. It just takes a second of making the victim look away from their uncovered drink for a pill or powder to be dropped in. Pills are easy to palm but powder hits the system faster.” He glanced down at the cup. “There was powder on the man I found you with. You got a second drink after you finished your first soda when he came up to the bar. The second was spiked but I think he spiked the first one too.”

“You got the man who did it,” Thomas said softly, swallowing.

“We got him,” Seong confirmed, wrapping his fingers around Thomas’s wrist and giving it a gentle squeeze. “That’s all you need to know about them, okay?”

Before Thomas could answer, bagpipes cut through the quiet of the apartment as “Danny Boy” filled the room. The sound stabbed into his ears and he dropped the mug to cover them. “God, make it stop!”

Phone Calls and Andrew

Seong caught the mug. The sound stopped before he slid the phone in front of Thomas on the couch. “Put it on speaker phone,” he instructed calmly as Thomas squinted at Danny’s name on the screen, “but don’t tell them I’m here.”

Swallowing, Thomas did what he was told. His fingers shook slightly as anxiety knotted in his stomach. “Hello?”

“Shut up, you lot,” Danny snapped then groaned in pain. “Thomas! Are you alright? What happened last night? Where are you?”

Thomas winced as his head throbbed in time with Danny’s voice. “Danny, please,” he begged. “One question at a time and at a lower volume. I have a splitting headache and the bagpipes didn’t help.”

“Sorry.” His voice dropped to an almost whisper. “Did you end up drinking after all? You said you didn’t want to do that.”

“No,” Thomas said slowly, looking up at Seong for guidance and getting a go ahead wave. “Someone spiked my drink after you guys left me.”

“WHAT,” Danny shouted then immediately hissed along with Thomas and other voices on the other end of the line moaned and groaned in pain. “Are you okay? Where are you?”

“I’m alive and I’m safe,” Thomas moaned, his head throbbing worse than ever. “Please, I’m begging you. No more shouting.”

“I second that begging,” Kevin groaned. Mark’s voice mumbled some agreement.

“Sorry, sorry,” Danny repeated, lowering his voice again. “But… Did it happen after you went to the bathroom?”

Thomas frowned as he glanced at Seong. “I… didn’t go to the bathroom,” he said slowly as Seong silently shook his head. “I never left the bar before it got spiked.”

“But Andy said you went to the bathroom right after we left you two,” Danny said, sounding confused.

“Andy was with me?” Thomas asked, looking at Seong again and feeling a knot forming in his chest as Seong’s expression didn’t change. “I don’t remember him being there at all. But I know I didn’t leave the bar until I was drugged.”

“Andy, what the fuck, dude?” Danny’s voice faded somewhat, like he had turned away from his phone.

“He’s lying,” Andy said aggressively. “He left me alone and told me not to follow him!”

“Yeah and like a dumbass you let him,” Danny snapped, his volume rising again.

“I am not his fucking babysitter,” Andy countered, his own voice rising.

“If you two don’t stop shouting, I’m going to hang up,” Thomas snapped already holding his finger over the screen.
