“Got it.” Jason cracked hisknuckles and rolled his neck. “On me.”

Half the Tressel Pack members stoleaway with Jason, using the trees as cover.

“Dad?” Brett said, lookingat Jake.

“I’ll keep Bella and Poppysafe, I swear,” Jake said, his voice laced with his authority as analpha-powerful male.

Brett nodded, then snapped his fingersand their pack moved away with him. A few males from both packsremained with her and her mom, including her grandpa.

“As soon as it’s safe, youcan go into the barn,” Jake said softly. “Hopefully he and yourbrother are there, and I hope to hell that they’re bothokay.”

Bella whined as theconnection she felt to Kash dimmed even more, like a candle flamethat burned too close to melted wax. It was a smoking ember now, nearly gone.

She held her breath as she watchedboth packs descend on the males who were moving around the barn. She was amazed at how fast the packs moved, taking out the malesshe’d never liked.

Carver and his buddies, Erich, Gage, and Weston.

Assholes through and through. She justwasn’t sure how her brother played into all this. She didn’t wantto think that he’d been part of Kash’s kidnapping, but how elsecould she explain his current absence?

Growls and snarls echoedaround them as the fighting escalated. There were shouts of painand even the cracking of bones that made Bella internally wince. She stamped her paws nervously on the ground, anxious to get toKash.

Someone whistled and Jake tapped heron the back lightly. “That’s our cue. Be careful no matter what, wehave no idea if Carver’s got more people who might showup.”

She nodded and moved withhim and her mom to the barn. The moment she saw the open doors, shefelt Kash was near. She raced into the barn and stopped in thecenter of the space. Farm equipment was all around, but she didn’tsee Kash. The evidence of the fight between the groups was allaround in the broken equipment, damaged walls, and injured males. The scent of blood was heavy in the air, and she couldn’t hearanything over the groaning of the injured.

She nosed around andcaught Kash’s scent. She followed it until she found some driedblood away from the males who were injured inside the barn. Inalarm, she lifted her head and howled. Her dad and Jason ran intothe barn.

“Is that blood?” Jasonasked.

“The cellar,” Brettsaid.

The two lifted the door to the cellarand Bella leaned over, peering into the darkness. Just under thespill of sunlight from the barn, she could make out a boot, whichshe thought looked like the ones Chris wore.

“Here’s the ladder,” Jakesaid. She scooted away and let the males lower the ladder. Allthree hurried down the steps.

“Logan, we need you,” Jasoncalled.

He ran over and slid down the ladder, landing with a huff.

Bella whined.

Logan leaned over into thespill of light. “Kash is here. He’s unconscious and I think prettyclose to death. Chris is unconscious too.”

She scooted back, wiggled her butt, and then leaped through the opening. She tucked at the last secondand rolled to the dirt floor, careening into the wall and knockingthe breath out of herself. She didn’t let the sharp ache in herchest stop her, she leaped to her feet and raced to hermate.

He looked…terrible. Hewasn’t just at death’s door, he’d rung the bell, said hello to thereaper, and put one foot across the threshold.

Black lines streaked up his arms fromwounds on his wrists, moving up his body to his neck and curlingover his jaw. His skin was pale, his eyes sunken, and aside fromhis chest moving when he breathed shallowly, he lookeddead.

Logan sat back on his heels with agrimace.

“Do you have someone inyour pack that’s a fairy that can open a portal?” Loganasked.

“Just wolves,” Brettsaid.

“Shit.”

“Have Jenna open a portalto you, then she can open a portal to the Fae Realm,” Linus, one ofthe high-ranked Tressel Pack males said.
