“Shit, good idea,” Logansaid. He called Jenna on his cell.

Bella crept forward, nudging her head under Kash’s arm. He moved just a little, moaningwith a rasp.

She closed her eyes and lifted herhead, letting out the loudest, angriest, saddest howl she couldmuster.

Then she smelled metal, and everythingwent blindingly white.

And then…nothing.

* * *

Kash was floating in someweird in-between. He wasn’t in pain, but he knew he should be. Theiron poisoning alone had felt like little knives inside his body, carving him up as they moved. Not to mention being tossed down tothe cellar and the short but painful fight with two of thewolves.

He couldn’t really hear anything orsee anything, everything was just white.

He felt a pull downward, like his bodywas being adhered to the ground.

Then he heard a voice.

Hello.

He opened his eyes but only saw brightwhite light, so he closed them again.

What’shappening?

It’s me, honey.

Kash recognized the voicefinally in his hazy mind.

Mom?

She chuckled sadly.Yes, sweet Kash. I’m still in Allen. Your dadwants me to open a portal to you and then take you to the FaeRealm, but I can feel that you’re near death and won’t survive thewait of me having to make portals.

So…you’re saying goodbye?Is Bella okay?

Bella’s right there withyou, honey. But I’m coming to you through our connection as fae.Rena is with me, and she’s helping me speak to you through anancient ability that’s only available to sirenfae.

Hey, dude.

Rena?

Yeah, so here’s the deal.I can heal your body on this other plane of existence, but you haveto get Bella.

Get her towhat?

Just grab hold ofher, Rena urged. Rena was a sirenfae, oneof the most powerful types of fae, and mated to his friendLuke.

I can’t really move, Imean I’m dying.

Not yet you’renot, his mom said. Now move your butt, Kash. Dad said Bella is right next toyou. You love her, don’t you?

With my whole being. Ididn’t tell her, though. I wish I did.

You can tell her whenyou’re awake, Rena said.Roll over, grab her, and then we’ll get youhealed.

He couldn’t really feel himself.Everything was just…nothing.

Kash! His mom yelled. Do it right now orso help me I’ll send all our ancestors to harass you in theafterlife and you’ll never get any peace.
