His heart clenched suddenly, and hesnarled, pressing his fist to his chest.

He had the strangest feeling…like heshould go back to Allen.

Was his truemate in Allen? How thehell was that possible?

Not wanting to waste another minute,he leaped over the garden fence, grabbed his shirt from the patio, and moved back into the yard. Where should he open a portal to? Hisown house?

Well, it was the fullmoon. Maybe the best place to start would be the alpha’s house. Itwas dinnertime, and the pack always liked to have get-togethersbefore the hunts and his friends and family would bethere.

Settled on his destination, he openeda portal to the alpha’s house. As it cleared and widened enough forhim to step through, he saw the line of vehicles parked on thegrass and the big front porch leading to the doors that were alwaysopen on the full moon to let anyone come in.

Immediately he was certain he’d madethe right choice.

But what was his next step?

Chapter Four

Bella never liked beingcalled into her dad’s office. It was one thing if she went in thereon her own to ask him a question, but an entirely different thingif he called for her. It was like getting called to the principal’soffice in school.

But he’d called for herthe day before the April full moon. She left her apartment anddrove to her parents’, her mind spinning. What could her dad wantto see her about? Did he suspect she was planning to leave withouttelling her parents and hang out with another pack? She hadn’t tolda soul, but maybe she’d been acting weird?

She parked in front of the house andturned off the engine, staring at the front door and letting hergaze slip to the right to where her dad’s office was. She waitedonly a moment before she got out and walked inside. If she waitedtoo long, he’d definitely think something was up.

Knocking on the door, shewaited to be called in and opened the door, finding her dad behindhis desk, her mom at his side standing dutifully next to him withher hands clasped in front of her, and her brother Chris on herdad’s other side, arms folded.

“You called for me?” sheasked. She cleared her throat because she was nervous, even thoughshe kept reminding herself that he was her dad and not some scaryalpha monster out to hurt her.

“Have a seat,” her dadsaid.

She sat in one of the chairs in frontof the desk and folded her hands on her lap to keep fromfidgeting.

“Chris told me about whathappened at that mixer you like to go to.”

She glanced at herbrother. “What?”

Chris made a face. “The male thatcalled you a freak and tried to hurt you when you told himoff.”

Bella grimaced. “What aboutit?”

Her dad gave her a long, quiet lookand then leaned forward, resting his forearms on the desk. Helooked so imposing behind the desk, so very much in charge ofeverything.

“You need to take a mate,Bella. You’ve been messing around long enough and you’retwenty-three, it’s far past time you settled down.”

“I’m not messing around,Dad,” she said. “I’m looking for my truemate.”

He waved a dismissive hand. “Truematesare for fairy tales and humans. You’re the daughter of the alphasand you need to take a mate and start a family.”

“Maybe taking a mate willhelp your wolf to come out,” her mom said quietly.

Her dad’s eye ticked, like he wasn’t afan of her mom chiming in. Then again, in her experience, her momalways took a backseat to her dad, and rarely spoke up when he wasin alpha-mode.

“There are two males in thepack who will mate with you,” her dad continued.

She tried to school herface from the look she wanted to give him, because she felt like itwas the most incredulous thing she’d ever heard in herlife.

“That’s not been myexperience, Dad,” she said. His eyes flashed with anger and shehurriedly added, “No one wants to mate me because I can’t shift. And maybe my wolf will come out eventually, but maybe she won’t.Maybe it’s not a scared-thing but a genetic-thing and I just won’tever shift.”

“I don’t subscribe to thatbelief,” he said. “You come from a long line of powerful wolves andyou will shift at some point. But regardless, it’s long past timefor you to move on to the next part of your life. The two males areGraydon and Brentley.”
