“You know, every Friday I find you in the same place, watching the same person,” Pike said.

I chuckled and turned to face him. “There’s just something about her that screams at my Daddy instincts.”

“She could use a Daddy. I’m pretty sure she’s lost some weight and she didn’t have any to lose to begin with.”

I nodded. I’d noticed. “She’s been more jumpy.”

He nodded. “I’ve noticed that too.”

“She’s never told Dallas why she’s so anxious?”

Pike shook his head. “Dallas said any time she tries to get her to open up about her childhood, or what’s going on with her, she shuts her down. Rouge does the same thing, from my understanding.”

Rouge was Emily’s twin sister. The fact that both women refused to speak about their past confirmed my suspicions that someone had caused them pain. I just wanted to hug both of them and promise them that we wouldn’t let anyone hurt them ever again. Nobody deserved to walk through life scared.

“Dallas did ask me recently if it was naughty to keep something from me if someone had asked her not to tell and I was thinking it may have something to do with Emily.”

“What did you tell her?”

“That she was a good girl, and in her heart she would know if she needed to tell me or not. We do have a rule about keeping things from each other, but I don’t want her to feel like she can’t be someone her friends confide in.”

I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could, there was a loud crash followed by an ear-piercing scream from downstairs where the Littles were. Pike and I both turned on our heels to see what the commotion was. My heart dropped to my feet. A scraggly looking, older man had grabbed Emily and was dragging her toward the door while Dallas and some of the other customers chased them..

“Put her down! Put her down!” Dallas screamed. I rushed down the stairs, taking them two at a time, and sprinted across the bar floor, scanning the scene in front of me as I ran. Axel and several bystanders seemed to be trying to intervene, but all it was doing was angering the man holding her. A crowd of people stood around them. He wasn’t taking Emily from this bar without a fight.

“Hey! Hey! We can talk about this,” Axel tried to reason, holding his hands out in front of him as he blocked the nearest exit.

I focused on Emily. The stranger had one meaty arm around her neck and the other pressed her body into his. Even with his movements it was easy to see her body was shaking violently and her pants were wet. The poor baby had urinated on herself. I already wanted to wring this guy’s neck, but seeing that made me want to gauge his eyes out. Whoever he was, Emily was terrified of him.

“Don’t need to talk about it. This girl is mine. Move!” he screamed. “She belongs to us.”

Who was this guy?

“No, Emily is one of ours. She doesn’t belong to you,” Pike growled as he held Dallas behind his body.

“She aint, and she does!” the stranger roared.

My heart pounded in my chest as I studied the situation. This guy wasn’t the smartest. He didn’t seem to have a weapon, and he was holding Emily at an odd angle. If she wasn’t so scared, she probably could have gotten free.

I caught Axel’s eye and nodded. He nodded back.

I was going in for Emily.

“Don’t try anything or I’ll kill her,” the asshole wannabe-kidnapper yelled. Spittle flew from his mouth and landed on Emily’s shirt. “Who are you nodding at? Stop nodding!”

“I’m not nodding at anyone; I’m trying to figure out how we’re going to help you,” Pike countered, with a glare.

“I’m not. I’m trying to figure out how to kill the motherfucker,” Axel baited.

“You son of a bitch,” the guy snarled. He looked back toward Axel and I took my chance, running forward before he could process what was going on. Charging him, I slammed my fist into his ribs. He dropped Emily and doubled over.

I pulled her to her feet and pushed her toward the back of the club. “Run to my office baby, lock the door.”

As soon as she was running toward safety, I turned back to the piece of shit and punched him twice in his gut. He fell to his knees and I kicked him backward. When he was down, I climbed on top of him, grabbed his collar, and punched him in the face. The feel of his bones breaking under my fist did little to calm the rage burning inside of me. I hit him again and blood spurted from his nose. “I don’t know who the fuck you are, but you better hope to God I don’t find out you’re the man who has traumatized that poor baby.”

“Onyx,” Pike interrupted, his hand on my shoulder. “Let us handle this. Take Dallas to check on Emily. They need you right now.”

I stared at the guy for a minute. I wasn’t done with him. Not even close.
