“The last of the four?” Lucifer pushes, and I nod tightly. “Does it have something on it that would resemble anything like the phrase I just quoted?”
Fuck. I don’t know how to explain it. Whatever, it would just be easier to show them. Unlocking my limbs, I pat Knox’s arms so he releases me, and I stand to face him. I pull my tank top up to expose my back tattoo.
“Wow! Love the artwork!” Lynx purrs, and someone runs their fingers down my spine, tickling me.
“See, I told you!” Lilith shouts, and I quickly cover up and turn around, determined to keep my skin. “She’s the one in the prophecy. She’s going to lead them to their deaths.”
Lucifer sighs and turns to Lilith. “Lily,” he gently starts. “You know I love you, right?”
“No. Don’t you dare start that shit with me, Lucy!” She narrows her eyes at him.
Glancing around my group, I notice they have the same unsure look on their faces as I do.
“Fine, if he can’t start it, I will.” Astaroth leans over to get her attention. “This all started with you and Adam. It’s how you lost your men in the first place. If you want to blame someone and get it off of you, then send it back to the person who deserves it.”
“Your boys and Rez are innocent, and unfortunately, have been given a heavy load," Murmur adds and hands Lilith a drink. “Here, drink this. It will help calm you so you can see reason.”
“But—”
“No buts, Lilith. Look at them,” Lucifer pleads.
“They are my babies,” Lilith cries out as a few tears fall from her blue eyes. Lucifer hands her a handkerchief from his jacket as I feel sadness filter through my link with Knox. Squeezing his bicep, I send him encouragement and love.
“They are not your babies anymore. They are grown.” Lucifer waves his hand before the group of us. “Yes, you missed out on their younger years, but that doesn’t mean you’ve lost them. They are right here, and Rez isn’t taking them away. It just means they have bigger responsibilities now, and you’ve gained a bigger family to love. I’ve gained children I didn’t know I had, and that includes you gaining a nephew and niece. So, don’t hold on to anger at the ones who aren’t responsible. If you need to, we’ll go hunting later so you can lash out and feed that side of you, okay?” he promises. Lilith takes a moment to examine all of us and then looks back at Lucifer before nodding her agreement.
“When you say feed that side later, does that mean another…” Lynx points to the hallway that we had to travel down to get here. “You know… bloodbath?”
Bez’s deep chuckle draws my attention, and flames ignite in his hand, forming a ball of flames that starts weaving around his fingers, as if it’s a coin he’s moving over his knuckles. “That was just cleaning house. Getting rid of any possible spies.”
“Nah, feeding the craving is finding the depraved souls and having fun with them,” Astaroth smirks.
“If we really want a workout, we go hunting and go on a chase for them. That’s my favorite,” Murmur admits, and I shrink back into Knox’s embrace.
Yeah, I almost forgot they were Demons, but that did it. Thanks for the reminder, but I’m still lost about this prophecy.
“Question!” Moni shoots her hand up in the air like we’re in class. Lucifer smiles and nods her way.
“So does this mean Rez helped Levi cheat on his mate?”
“Damn, way to put it out there. I mean, we were all thinking it, but she just comes out wham, bam, thank you, ma’am,” Lynx exclaims.
Heat crawls up my neck from the eyes that swing my way. I can’t bring myself to look at anyone, just in case Lucifer confirms what Moni says.
Please don’t agree.
“Not at all. See, when Rez and Levi got together—”
‘Did the nasty, the horizontal tango, the boot scootin boogie. BSB… Wait, isn’t that a boy band? Why do I remember that?’
‘Are you trying to kill me, Lynx?’ I emphasize with wide eyes in his direction.
‘Is that a possibly with embarrassment?’ he asks.
‘Ugh. I can’t with you,’ I say, and glance up to see my guys looking at me and Levi wearing a big smile.
“Wait, what? I’m sorry. I was distracted,” I admit sheepishly.
“My tattoo is evidence that my magic has picked you, and it won’t allow me to bond with anyone else,” Levi repeats for my benefit.
