“Simple, you’re a grown-ass adult and I didn’t feel comfortable telling you what to wear when you didn’t remember me. Hell, I don’t even think you believed me half the time.”

“Hmm. You might have a point,” he relents, and I give him a smug smile. “But you could have solved that easily.”

“Oh really? How?” I inquire.

“Simple. All you had to do was rub a little lower and maybe bathe me with your tongue and I would have purred all night and believed anything you said.”

“Ugh, but you wouldn’t have appreciated it without your memory.”

“Who’s telling lies? Let me at them. Any male with a dick appreciates a blow job. Wait. Were you going to use teeth? Claws? Vibrators?” he asks excitedly. “Oh, what about those little vibes that you can wear and your partner controls it? Butt plugs. I heard they have vibrating ones! Awe man, why didn’t you try that on me?” He pouts as his mind takes off with more ideas.

Welcome back, Lynx… I missed you.

CHAPTER 42

Gates of Hell

Rez

We walk into the parlor, and I stumble when I see Levi standing by the fireplace.

“What happened? I thought you were leaving?”

“So did we,” Ryker says, propping his feet up on the coffee table.

“Got your memory back?” Knox asks Lynx as he comes around the sofa to sit down.

“Yeah. I remember that I don’t much like you. The last interaction I had with you before all this, you were playing a mean trick on my Rezzi-bear,” Lynx tosses out as he steps past and sits down in one of the love seats. JP walks out of the kitchen and pauses with his eyebrows up and his jaw slackens, and I see I’m not the only one caught off guard.

“Why are you still here?” he asks as he wipes his hands on a dish towel. He tosses it on top of the bar as he sits down next to Zeke.

“That’s an excellent question,” Lucifer says, walking in from the other hallway with the rest of L.A.M.B. following behind. He locks eyes with everyone around the room before stopping in front of the fireplace and facing the room. “Where’s Knots?” he asks the group, but then turns to me. “Did the spell work?”

Before I can answer him, Knots’ voice comes from the kitchen door. “Yes, it worked. I just needed to refuel my body.” His voice strains as he tries to walk out of the door. His wings get stuck, and he struggles to free himself as something crashes on the other side of the doorway. “And it looks like I might need help in relearning how to handle these things.” His shoulders droop for a moment until his wings drag on the floor, and he sighs before standing back up straight, pulling his shoulders back. “What’s going on?” he asks as Reaper runs in through his feet with a bone in his mouth, bumping into Knots’ legs.

“Fuck all is going on. The portals are closed in the Crucible,” Murmur says, going to the bar. I swear, he might as well live behind the damn thing.

“What he means is, as of right now, we can’t leave Hell,” Lucifer mentions and sits down on his seat.

“Wait. Did you just say we’re stuck here?” I ask, walking toward him. My breath gets caught in my throat as my heart slams into my chest. I’m hearing things, right?

“Not stuck, just unable to leave at this time,” Lucifer drawls, watching as Reaper runs over to the fireplace, lying down with the bone.

“Well, that solves everything. Levi is unable to make his appearance to the King of Berry Pickers, which is probably going to start a war, and Nova will be hit hard, which means we should start calling it SuperNova,” Lynx grumbles and looks at JP and Zeke. “You know, because of all the explosions.” He looks back at the group as a whole. “But everything will be peachy because our asses are down here roasting in a comfortable temperature of ball sweat, all because We. Can’t. Leave. At. This. Time. Fucking. Peachy.” The room goes silent for a moment. “Did I miss something?” he asks, and Lucifer’s jaw clenches.

“I think you were better with your memory gone,” Astaroth comments.

“You only say that because you can’t handle the full awesome power that is my intellect, but that’s okay. I’ll grow on ya. It’s a power of mine.” Lynx winks.

“I’m sure I will… like a fungus.” Astaroth grumbles.

“Can we get back to the fact you guys are still here?” I ask, as I wipe my clammy hands on my pants. Knots doesn’t have any protection from this place except my shield, and these oafs are just sitting here like there’s no worry in the world.

“Don’t get your panties in a twist, Rez.” Murmur chuckles. “Want a drink?”

“I’ll take a Java Chip Frappuccino with four extra espresso shots, please. I’m coffeeing real bad,” Moni insists, rubbing her arms.

“You mean jonesing, Moni,” I say with a heavy sigh.
