My hand starts trembling as I reach for the block that shows me holding his hand as he died. Pressing it in, it glows and disappears, leaving two more matches. The fall to Hell is next. As I quickly press both blocks that are at eye level, they light up and disappear, and in their place are two turquoise eyes staring back at me.

Standing in front of me isn’t the ten-year-old that was crying on the floor, but my… “Lynx!” I say breathlessly.

“Hey, Rezzi-bear!” He smiles. “We’re almost there.”

I have the biggest smile on my face when I slam my hands on the tiles showing Lynx on the altar. They flash green and disappear, along with the black bars of the cage.

I don’t hesitate as I throw myself at Lynx and completely miss.

My head hits something hard, making my eyes tear up.

“Oww,” Lynx says. “You sure know how to make a guy see stars, Rezzi-bear.”

Hearing my nickname has me forgetting all about my achy head and watery eyes. I look up and find Lynx still lying down on the altar. Leaning over, I grab his cheeks and give him an upside down spiderman kiss. There’s no way I’m passing up this chance to kiss him and tell him how much I love him.

He moans into my mouth as he kisses me back.

‘Ugh. I don’t know how in the hell they made this look sexy. It’s uncomfortable,’ I complain.

‘I agree, so move your sexy ass over here so I can defile you properly,’ Lynx teases.

I shuffle around the altar, not daring to break our kisses, but in the process, I almost trip and we end up laughing with our lips still touching.

“You are such a klutz,” Lynx points out as his fingers cup my jaw.

“Yes, but you love me anyway,” I retort, and Lynx pulls back sharply.

His smile melts off his face as he looks deeply into my eyes. “Yes, Rez, I do. I love you with all of my heart and soul. And no matter what obstacles are in front of me, I will always fight to come back to you.”

He sits up and moves so I’m wedged between his legs and I grab the sheet to hold it in place while he’s still holding my face. “You are my world, my moon, my mate, and I love you. And if we weren’t about to be interrupted, I would bend you over this altar and show you.” He waggles his eyebrows and laughter bubbles out of me.

“Oh, my God, Lynx,” I say, smacking him in the shoulder as the room starts shaking.

“Hey, everything okay in here?” Murmur asks, poking his head in. “Besides trying to renege on your promise?” He raises his eyebrows and gives me a pointed look.

I roll my eyes and step away from the altar to face Murmur. “Yeah, we just finished, so we’re all good.” I throw him a thumbs up.

“Good, because we have a problem. Everyone’s in the parlor,” he announces and leaves.

“What kind of problem do we have now? Can’t we get a break?” I moan.

I turn to look at Lynx, only to find him hopping off the altar and looking for his pants. I quickly give him my back as I blurt out my question, ripping the bandaid off as fast as I can.

‘Lynx, do you remember seeing Mom during your time in captivity?’ I ask, biting into my lip.

‘Jillian? No… wait, why?’ He asks as I hear him fumbling with his pants. “What happened?’

‘It’s probably nothing, but while I was unlocking your memories, there was one with a woman on it that looked like Mom on one side of the cage you were in. The setting looked like the dreamscape I visited you in.’ I ramble on as I play with the hem of my shirt.

‘Shit, I’m sorry, Rezzi, but that time is still fuzzy for me.”

I exhale the breath I was holding and let my shoulders drop as my last hope dissipates into the air. Just shake it off. It’s just a coincidence.

‘Who dressed me this morning? These are horrible pants,’ Lynx whines.

I turn to find him pulling at the crotch of his pants, and it brightens my mood. Is he kidding? “You did. You’ve been dressing yourself since we got here.”

“I picked this? How did you let me out of the damn room?” he winks as we start down the hall to the parlor.
