“With us bouncing between Earth and Hell, we haven’t been as vigilant, and that’s on us,” Lucifer admits.
“The point is, he doesn’t remember coming across anything explaining why the portals might be closed,” she admits, and I see JP and Zeke slump against the sofa. “He did recount reading something about a master switch to unlock the portals.”
“Did he say where he read it?” Chester asks, completely intrigued if the way his eyes perk up is any indication.
“No, only that he read it in one of my books,” she tells us.
“Typical,” Ryker sighs with an eye roll.
“Wait, didn’t we move your books here?” Astaroth says, turning toward Lilith. “When you decided to spend more time in Purgatory, we brought your books here. Yes!”
“Oh! I’ll help look then!” Moni says, and flies over to the bookcase by the bar and starts browsing the shelves.
Lilith’s laughter rings through the room eerily until Moni turns and frowns at her. “What?”
“Oh, sweetie. They would be in the library. Not here. Come, I’ll show you.” We all get up and follow her out of the room. Reaper darts in front of the group and takes off, spotting another rodent… nope. That’s a servant darting into another room. Well, he might become a chew toy, depending on how Reaper feels. I kinda wish he would use Trometh as a squeaky toy. Speaking of the little Demon; before I step out of the room, I look over my shoulder and only see the random Demon still working, but no… one-eyed, one-horned flying purple people eater. That definitely stinks to me. And if you’re old enough to know what that is, did you sing it?
“Does it feel like the Fates are bending us over and jamming toys up our asses?” I ask no one in particular when I catch up.
“You’re getting toys? Shit, I think I’m getting probed by a sword with no lube,” Knots says.
“Oh! Chester!” Moni squeals.
Chester’s face turns a bright red as he clinches his butt cheeks and covers his ass, “NO!” He turns so he’s walking backward and looking at Moni.
I burst into laughter, and a few of the guys join me.
“Aww, what’s the matter? Not into adventures?” Knox teases.
“You try to take a tail up the ass and then come talk to me,” Chester fires back.
Hmm. My curiosity is peaked.
“How was it?” I ask with a straight face.
“Are you serious?” Chester’s eyes widen, and I’m kinda scared they’re going to fall out of his head.
“Deadly. It’s not like Rez has one, so you’re the only one for me to ask about getting a tail up the ass. Come on, spill. I need the deets,” I say, snapping my fingers. The crazy loon is just staring at me like I’m the crazy one. “Should I get a potion for Rez to drink to grow one?” I turn my attention to Lilith ahead of us and raise my voice. “Is that possible? Can she get a temporary tail?”
“Lynx, you are such a delight. Anything can be whipped up, but what makes you think she would use it on you?” Lilith cackles with mirth when I hiss at her.

I like Chester; he seems like a cool guy. Wish I would have been around to know how he came about, but I have to trust that he’s treating Moni right. What am I saying? I’m sure Rez would put him in his place if he didn’t. I’m really going to have to get him alone and get the tail story out of him, one way or another.
I observe the people around me, and I wonder what else I missed while my memories took a hiatus. Besides Rez adding to her harem, did I miss anything else? My time with the Rebels seems fuzzy at best. A chill runs down my spine as a few moments flash in my mind of some of the torture I went through. The knife, rope, the burns. I shake my head to dislodge the memory and find us in front of engraved double doors.
We walk into a room that I’ve never been into before, and all hope fades from my existence. “Are you kidding me? You have more books than the Beast that had hair everywhere movie. With the rose, singing utensils, and bookshelves,” I state, looking up and up along the wall to my right. There’s a bookshelf immediately to my left that’s blocking the rest of the room, but I’m sure it’s huge as the rest of the group filters around it.
“Oh! Are you talking about that one movie where she attacks people with a round metal bubble blower thing? She’s marvelous! I was trying to find that weapon in the training room, but they didn’t have it,” Moni asks as she spins around and looks around the room.
“Moni, do you mean Tangled?” JP asks. His hands are on his hips as he cocks his head to the side and stares at her.
“No! She had really long beautiful blonde hair until the end when it was cut and it turned brown, but it was never tangled, JP,” she scoffs and then giggles. “Get your cartoons right, sheesh.”
As everyone continues to follow Lilith, I linger behind.
“Are you sure they are yours? I’m surprised they’ve lasted this long,” Bez growls to Lucifer, and the latter smiles.
