My heart breaks for Lynx, listening to the anguish in his voice as he asks for any answers about his past. Thankfully, I have some. While I scrub the dried cum from my ass crack and wash away elements of the Ever Woods, I fill him in on our basic past. I start at our beginning, telling him about how he’s a Storm Shifter and he came to find me when I was six, but that this was recently revealed to me since my mother had spelled him the night he came to find me.

I also tell him we normally use the link because, for the longest time, that was the only way we could communicate. And back when he could change into a real boy, it was our secret.

I admit I don’t know much about his family except that he told me he was an only child and his parents were still alive and are also Storm Shifters. We didn’t have many friends until we came here, but that didn’t bother us since we always had each other. I skip the details of my mother’s death but explain that my father disappeared the night Lynx showed up. Though, one of the Fates told me he’s alive.

I explain that we’re now… Well, we were in Purgatory because Diablo pulled me there to help the Supernatural world, which I’m still trying to figure out. I go on telling him how we were only at Purgatory a week before the Rebels attacked him and I thought he was dead. I was ashamed to admit how I acted and curled within myself while I mourned instead of tearing down the place and kicking ass and taking names. I didn’t know he was still alive until I learned about the Dreamscape and that it was real.

I admit I saw the signs of him possibly losing his memories when I visited him during a nasty experience. I tear up as I recount the moment I found him tied up and tortured. At least I get him to chuckle when I tell him how I threatened to castrate Knots when he wouldn’t let me leave to go find Lynx after I found that magical trail. The Abuhuku was a whole horror story within itself, but I got through that too.

By the time I come to the part of me being stuck in the cave by the storm, I’m dressed and walking around the partition, reattaching my magic bracelet to my left wrist. I’d brought in my clothes, a purple tank top and black pants that include a thick sheath for my knife and pockets for my USB and dead phone. Lynx is sitting on the counter cross-legged, leaning back against the mirror and looking down at his hands.

“You okay?” I ask, startling him as his head pops up with wide eyes.

“Uh. Yeah. It’s just… a lot to take in, you know?” he says, shifting his eyes away from mine.

“Yeah. I guess.” I force a small smile to my lips before reaching into the bathroom closet once again for the familiar container of the green goop that JP gets for me back in Purgatory. This stuff works miracles on my hair. I hear a distinct swoosh in the other room, and I bet the fireplace just exploded with brimstone. While applying the stuff to my wet locks, I continue my explanation. “So, where did I leave off?”

“After the Abuhuku,” Lynx says with a visible shudder. “You stopped at the part where the thunder stag saved you, gave you shelter, and then you ended up trapped there.”

“Oh yeah,” I say, combing through my hair and leaving it down. “I was trying to follow the silver trail back to you and got sidetracked by the Abuhuku, and I ended up in the cave where you found us. But before that, I had lost my memory of you. I think it’s because of what happened the last time I saw you in the Dreamscape.”

With a nod, Lynx propels himself off the counter and walks towards the door to the bedroom.

“Don’t you need to take a shower?” I ask, a little perplexed.

“Nah, I feel as good as new,” he says, looking down at his body. “I guess I could use a shirt, though, unless you like staring at all of this sexiness. Maybe I’m a distraction that you want.” His lip curls up into a cocky smile before he steps out, and I follow him.

Ugh. I forgot how insufferable he could be on two legs, but I still love him.

“I just don’t understand,” I say, changing my mind and pulling my hair up into a messy bun.

“What don’t you understand?” he retorts, cocking his head.

“Lynx, when I saw you last in the Dreamscape, I’m pretty sure you were dead. It wasn’t until I saw you again after we fell into Hell that I got my memory of you back.”

Well, that’s one way to wipe the cocky smile off of his face.

CHAPTER 5

Voices in my Head

Knox

I can’t help but grin as I hear Lynx stumble over his words to Rez as I lean against the door. I could feel kitten’s anxiety over Lynx’s memory loss and figured it would be best to give them a few minutes to talk. When I hear Moni mention checking in with JP, I know I’ve done the right thing. Pushing off the door, I take in the room as I go to find a closet for some new clothes.

I’ve never been to Hell, but this isn’t what I expected. I pictured fiery pits of brimstone and Demons hopping around with pitchforks. Nowhere in my wildest dreams did I think there would be a palace with marble flooring, elaborate decorations, and bedrooms this fucking big. I guess the only things that are spot on are the heat and the subtle smell of brimstone.

Damn, it’s hot. Pulling off my shirt, I feel my animals shift as I throw it on the bed.

‘It’s a furnace in here. How is one to get comfortable?’ a stuffy posh voice rings out.

My eyes go wide as I stop in my tracks.

What the fuck?

My eyes scan around the room as I listen for the intruder. I could have sworn there was no one else here. Satisfied that I am indeed alone, I shake my head before continuing on, opening the first door to find a bathroom that is indeed also unoccupied.
