“Ahhh!” Moni screams, and I quickly look into their room to find flames jumping in the fireplace and Moni fleeing from that side of the room.

“Fuck me,” Rez says under her breath.

Would love to, I silently answer.

“Fugly Furry Baby Bottoms, Rez. You’re going to kill me,” Moni says, sporting pale white bark as she flies up to us. I can’t help but wonder if anyone has taken the time to create a glossary of what all her colors mean. Whoever would think to do that would be a genius.

“I’m so sorry.” Rez bites her lip once again as Moni catches her breath. “I didn’t mean to.”

Moni gives her a small smile as her bark goes back to green. She pulls a massive cup out of thin air that oddly smells like coffee. “I think I’m going to go find JP. I’ll see you in a bit,” she says, waving as she moves down the hall. She quickly zips down to a door opening and JP pokes his head out, without her knocking. Did he read her mind? I need to remember we have a mind reader in this group. He glances at us and yells, “have fun,” before winking and closing his door.

Was the wink for me or Rez? I mean, I know I’m sexy, but I’m pretty sure I don’t swing that way.

I turn back and find Rez smiling up at me. “Well, it looks like your wish came true. Come on.” She walks into her room and grabs a bundle of clothes at the end of the bed.

“Wow, these rooms are snazzy,” I comment, looking around the space. There’s a window across the room, but the curtains are drawn, so I can’t see what’s out there. Then again, it’s night, and I’m not really expecting a seaside view in Hell. Black and gold furnishings decorate the room, and the bed—which is bigger than a king—is in the middle, draped in white and gold bedding with matching nightstands. There’s a vanity, an armchair, a fireplace—which has already made itself known—a full-length mirror, and two doors. One looks to lead into a closet and the other into the bathroom. Plush rugs cover the entire floor in shades of white, black, and red.

“Didn’t you get to see your own room before you and Knox had the wrestling match?” Rez asks, and I take in how big the bed is. I bet it has to be this huge because of the Demons and their wings.

“Nah, that overgrown pussycat told me to get my shit together and knocked on the door before you opened it.” I turn and find Rez walking through one door. “Is there more of it?” I ask, following behind her.

“That’s what I’m going to find out.”

Well, shit!

Who knew coming to Hell would find you standing in a bathroom that’s covered from head-to-toe in white marble. Embedded into the black countertop along the wall to my right is a large mirror and sink. Rez sets her clothes down there as we check out the rest of the room. By the door, there’s a small closet filled with bath towels and shower products. A large shower sits behind a partitioned area with multiple shower heads and a wooden bench for placing towels and clothes. The toilet is behind a separate door for privacy.

I lean against the sink as Rez turns on the shower, grabs a few towels and shower items, and goes back to the bench inside the shower.

“What are you doing?” I ask, giving her a curious look.

“What does it look like?” Rez huffs and rolls her eyes. “I need a shower, and you wanted to spend some time with me,” she points out, not looking at me. Instead, she concentrates on undoing her boots, kicking off her socks, and throwing off her jacket. Damn. “So, get comfortable while I shower. It’s not like you haven’t seen it all before.” She peers over her shoulder with a smirk before she rips her shirt off over her head and shimmies out of her pants in front of me, showcasing her matching lavender underwear.

I force down the lump in my throat and shift my stance to hide my growing erection.

Aww yeah, a peep show! Why does this feel familiar?

She sways her hips before she disappears behind the partition. Aww.

“Lynx. What do you remember?” Rez asks as I hear her drop the rest of her clothes and step into the water.

There’s a part of me that wants to strip down and join her since she feels so comfortable with me, but I know deep down it would be wrong, and I just can’t do that to her. Or to me, to be honest, so I hop up on the countertop and swing my feet as I think about what I do know.

“You mean when I woke up?” I ask for clarification.

“Yeah.”

“It was probably just a dream, for all I know,” I say, shaking my head. “It was all fuzzy, but the only thing I remember is watery gray eyes and a tear. At least, I think it was a tear.”

“That doesn’t give us much to go on,” Rez replies over the noise of the running shower.

My fingers curl around the edge of the countertop so hard my knuckles hurt.

“It’s so frustrating not knowing anything. I woke up in a strange smelly place, and it was like my instincts kicked in,” I admit. “I ended up following different passages until I ran into your group, where you all said you knew me.” A barrage of emotions suddenly arise, and I pause, swallowing them back down as I try to relax my muscles. “It’s the most surreal feeling in the world, to have a bunch of people look at you and say they know you when you don’t even know yourself. And to top it off, I have a best friend who I can only assume knows everything about me.” I try to control the trembling in my voice, but it’s hard. “So, please, if that’s true, can you give me a rundown on the basics? Family? Friends? How old am I? Where were we together last, and how the fuck did I lose my memory?”

I stare at the partition in front of me, my feet swaying slightly as I wait for answers with bated breath. If she can’t answer those things, then who can?
