“Oh!?” She looks at Rez with shocked amusement. “Well, I see you’ve already tamed them then, huh?”

“Ugh. Just kill me now. Why can’t the floor just swallow me up?” Rez moans and tries to cover her reddening cheeks.

“Since when are you embarrassed about your sexuality?” Knox provokes.

“Since we’re talking about sex with your mother.” Rez gives him a pointed look. “How do you like talking about sex in front of your parents?” she fires back and does that cute like neck roll that sends her loose strands flying around her head.

“Ugh. Gross,” Ryker groans, wrinkling his nose.

“I concur,” Levi says, pursing his lips.

“Yeah. No thank you. Now all I can picture is Dad’s wrinkled ass,” Knox announces.

“Oh no. It’s not wrinkled at all. It’s quite firm, and tight in all the right places,” Lilith confirms and looks back at Rez. “You have some very good-looking men, if I do say so myself. Only the best.”

“Hmm. How do you know—”

“Oh, because of the bond. And I remember you very well, Nerezza Taylor. The human with the familiar—” She cuts off as she looks over at Lynx and cocks her head, but I’m not focused on that. I’m still lost on the bond Mom was talking about.

“Wait. What bond?” I ask, and I feel Rez stiffen next to me.

“Well, that’s not good at all. Who have you pissed off?” Lilith asks Lynx.

“Huh? What do you mean?” Lynx asks, shifting and pulling his knees to his chest.

“Is he your familiar?” she asks Rez.

Lost for words, Rez’s jaw moves up and down for a few seconds before answering. “Um. Yeah, kinda. I mean one of his forms, but it’s more complicated than that.”

“Clearly,” Lilith deadpans.

“Can someone back the fuck up and tell me about this bond that you seem to be picking up that the rest of us are missing?” I ask, getting frustrated the more I have to wait. Rez tries to grab my attention, but I brush her off as I stare at my mother.

“Wow. This is like one of those soap operas that Earth is always playing on TV,” Murmur comments, sitting down on the floor before he digs into a bowl of nuts. He frowns as he crunches on a handful and throws the bowl over his shoulder. “It’s not the same without popcorn,” he whines as Trometh rushes to clean up the spilled nuts. Where did that creepy little guy come from?

“Agreed,” Astaroth says as he hands Murmur a bowl of popcorn and sits down next to him, looking in my direction.

What the fuck? When did he get up and get popcorn? And since when did my life become a soap opera?

“Ezekiel, calm down. I’m simply talking about the mate mark between Rez and Knox. Now that the Demons are out of me, it’s easier for me to pick up the aura surrounding them, proving that they’re mated. It also explains that I know something is up with you, dear boy,” she says, swiveling her body to look at Lynx. “What happened to you?”

Lynx bristles from the attention but plasters on a smile and answers, “Well, that’s easy. I don’t remember shit, so I’m guessing my memories took a vacay, and they didn’t leave a time frame for when they were coming back.”

“Is this how he was when he was in his cat form?” Lilith asks Rez.

“He’s a little rusty,” she admits sheepishly.

“The nerve…” Lynx scoffs as Lilith gracefully gets up from her seat and walks to stand in front of Lynx.

I lean over to Rez and whisper into her ear. “You decided to mate with Knox?” I ask, feeling a little insecure.

We spent the night talking about mate marks and the guys when they found me underneath my altar yesterday. Shit, was it really yesterday? Man, this has been the longest day ever! Either way, it’s not a complete surprise, but I wasn’t expecting it to happen this soon. She seems to have made progress with everyone else except me, and I can’t help but feel a little hurt by it.

“It happened when we were stuck in the cave during the storm, Zeke. It doesn’t mean my feelings for you are any less,” she promises, lowering her voice so only I can hear. She grabs my chin, turning it and planting a heated kiss, yet all too soon, she pulls away, making me chase after her lips. I still want more time with her, but her kiss reassured me a bit.

She chuckles as she leans into me and draws my attention back to Lilith.

Mom moves across the room and places her hand on Lynx's forehead. They both let out a yelp of pain, and Bez jumps to his feet, a ball of fire in his hand.
