“Oh hush, Lucy. It’s not her fault that she’s smitten with my boys.” Mom silences Lucifer, or “Lucy,” in this case.

I try to hold in my snicker, but it slips a little. A fireball flies by my head, heat almost singeing off my eyebrows as my eyes go wide and a lump gets stuck in my throat.

“Fuck me,” Ryker whispers as he looks past me, and I shakily turn to see Bez with a cruel smile on his face as he blows on his fingertips.

“Bez! That’s enough. These are my boys and their friends, so please treat them like family. They are my family; therefore, they are also yours,” she chastises.

“No family of mine,” Astaroth says as he picks up a drink from Murmur. He sits down on a footstool and leans against the wall, kicking out his long legs so they are stretched out before him.

The tension in the room is heavy and someone needs to break it before it comes crashing down on all of us.

“About that. How in hell are the guys related to you anyway? I mean, I know I’m new to all of this, but even history has to be right, saying that you didn’t have kids. Yet here you are claiming them,” Lynx asks. I’m not sure if he’s brave or fucking suicidal; though, I’m grateful he’s the one asking.

“Thank you for asking.” Lilith beams as she sits down in a lounge chair. She holds out her hand for a drink, which Lucifer passes her before he takes his own seat in a wingback leather chair next to her.

For the next couple of hours, Lilith—my mother—tells us the story of how she was betrayed, possessed, and then blamed for the murder of our birth mothers. She goes on explaining how we were dying and how, with her magical essence, she saved us, changing us in the process. Nothing is for certain, but she’s sure that we are more than the normal species of Mage, Vampire, Shifter, and Fae. Already she’s seen some changes in us, but she was barely able to do anything until now because of the three Demons that were in her body for decades.

Realization finally hits me that Mom might be the only person who truly understands what it’s been like for me my entire life. Having this entity inside of me, not even feeling like myself completely some days, has made me feel more alone than ever before. I don’t know how to explain it, but I feel as if that dark entity has either locked himself up so tight that I can’t feel him anymore, or he’s disappeared entirely. Maybe coming to Hell has saved me.

“So, the entire time we’ve known you… You weren’t yourself?” Knox asks, running his fingers through his hair.

“Yes, my dear boy. It’s been heart-wrenching to only see bits and pieces of you throughout the years, only being fully present for small parts of it,” she admits.

“How do we know this is the real you now?” Levi asks, his calm exterior giving nothing away. Throughout her storytelling, he sat back in his chair, swirled his drink, and occasionally took a sip, but he has mostly stayed quiet.

“I am so sorry, Leviathan. You, out of all my children, have been treated the worst,” she says, getting up from her seat and walking to him. She drops to her knees before him and lays her hands on his crossed knee. “I don’t know why they sought you out more than the others, but I can only imagine it was because you, out of everyone, would be able to subdue me, or at least see through the charade once you were tired of obeying.”

She sits back on her heels and bows her head. “I know you have no reason to believe me,” she says, her voice sounding thick with emotion. She reaches up with her hand and grabs her pearls, twisting them in her hand before looking back up at him with moisture in her eyes. “But all I can do is assure you that this is the real me and open myself up for you to read without any barriers between us,” she says, waiting a moment before getting back up and going back to her chair.

“All I ask is that you give me the same chance that I asked of your fathers. Don’t cut me out of your life. Allow me to make it up to you all. Please,” she begs, looking at all of us.

I shift uncomfortably in my seat, and Rez reaches down to grab my hand, giving it a squeeze.

“What’s the matter, Ezekiel? You look confused,” Lilith comments.

“It just blows my mind that our dads are your mates. That means they are old as hell,” I say, trying to keep the disgust from my tone.

“How did you break the possession?” Rez bravely asks.

I’m curious as well, as are all the others, and we all lean in to hear the amazing tale.

“Oh, that’s an easy one to answer, Rez.” Mom smiles at my woman. She turns back to us, though, to answer. “Once your fathers figured out what was wrong, they looked up the old prophecy. They got it in their heads to come together to help me,” she admits, a blissful smile slowly crossing her face, making me squirm even more.

Maybe I don’t want to know.

“Still doesn’t answer my question,” Rez murmurs, but it’s loud enough for Lilith to hear it.

“Oh, sorry dear,” she says, reaching up and grabbing her pearls before twirling them in her hand. “They fucked the Demons right out of me. HmmMmm. Just like old times. Gangbanged like a pro. You would have never guessed we’d been apart for so long.”

Well, that’s one way to add shock value. I’m left speechless while I try not to picture the image she has just dropped on us, and Knox gags immediately, while Ryker laughs. Levi is stoic as usual, except for wide eyes. JP also laughs as he waggles his eyebrows in my direction, and Moni cackles like a damn hyena until she falls off the stool she’s sitting on. Rez’s jaw has hit the floor.

Bet she wishes she didn’t ask now.

“Well, damn,” Lynx says, leaning forward more. “Do you think you can teach me a thing or two?”

Lilith’s laughter fills the room until she looks over at us and her face drops. “Oh! I still have to give you guys the talk. There’s so much for you all to learn.”

“Ugh. No, Mom. We’re good,” Ryker says, shaking his head with a smile.
