“Very well,” Lucifer says. “Just in case you didn’t figure it out, you can change your rooms around by thought. Just like the closets.” He turns to leave with Murmur following him out. “Don’t destroy my place.”

“What did I miss?” Moni asks as she looks around the room. Chester leans in and whispers in her ear. The fireplace erupts as her eyes go wide and her bark goes glitter bomb.

“Wow!” Moni says, looking at Knots with astonishment. She quickly shakes herself out of it, and with Chester’s help, pulls foot stools up to the table so we’re all sitting in a circle around the coffee table.

“Does anyone else feel like they’ve been on an emotional roller coaster that we didn’t sign up for?” I ask as my mind whirls with so much information. “I mean, we just got an information dump from hell. I feel like my brain is about to malfunction just to keep everything in.”

“Just a little,” Moni agrees, sporting her natural green color again.

“Yeah. At least the good news is, you found Lynx,” Chester chimes in. “And Lilith can restore his memory.”

“Lynx doesn’t seem to be the only one that needs it,” JP says as he peers over at Knots. “You okay, man?”

Knots slowly shakes his head back and forth as if he’s in disbelief before he takes in our expressions of worry and astonishment. He runs his hand through his hair as his voice chokes slightly. “I knew I was missing pieces of my past, but I had no idea that—I—they have to be wrong,” he chuckles and looks at me. “I think I would have remembered if I became one of the fallen. I just don’t understand.” A worry line appears between his eyes as he shakes his head again. “It’s just too much to handle right now.”

“It’s okay, Knots. We’ll figure things out later,” I say, reassuring him.

“Well, that was delightful,” Levi says, leaning forward and grabbing a handful of nuts.

Lynx looks over at Moni and Chester. “Who are you?” he asks, cocking his head to the side. He gives Chester a once over and a bland look, blatantly unimpressed.

“I’m Chester. Moni’s mate,” he replies, pushing up his glasses and grabbing Moni’s hand.

“Who names their kid Chester?” Lynx snorts, and I consider junk punching him on principle.

“Who names their kid Lynx?” Knots whispers, leaning into me as I roll my eyes.

“Me. I named him when I was six. Give me a break.” I laugh when he blushes and gulps audibly.

‘It’s a wonderful name. Really!’ he backtracks, and I think it’s adorable.

“Well, it’s actually Chestnut. We have a tradition in our family to name your child after the first nut thing they eat,” Chester admits, pushing his hair back from his eyes. A faint blush rises on his cheeks, and Moni swoons against him.

“Oh. I see. So let me guess. Chestnuts are your favorite nut,” Lynx says and pushes the bowl of nuts on the table toward Chester.

Leaning away from the bowl Chester stammers. “Umm. Act—actually, I’m allergic.”

The room goes silent as we process that information.

“That’s good to know, from my standpoint. Any other allergies I should know about since I’m the resident cook of this group?” JP asks, trying to lighten the mood. He throws up some popcorn, and Zeke playfully catches them out of the air before JP can with his mouth.

“I’m allergic to stupidity,” Knox growls.

“I think everyone is in this group,” Ryker chuckles.

“Got that right. Anyone else finding this extremely weird?” Moni asks, holding her tail against her.

“What do you mean?” Levi asks, giving Moni his full attention.

“Well, think about it. How did you guys get here? I was stolen and Bez saved me and brought me here. Chester and Knots were pulled here, and you guys fell here. Isn’t that a little weird?”

“She does have a point,” Lynx agrees, picking out chestnuts and smiling at Chester before throwing a few into his mouth.

“Not to mention how we’ve been looking for Lynx and he just suddenly shows up out of the blue, just in time to fall into Hell with you all. It’s just too much.” Moni’s coloring starts to cycle through dark gray, white, and blue, and without missing a beat, Chester turns to her and plants a kiss on her that leaves her melting into his hand.

“What the fuck?” JP shrieks. “That’s my sister!”

Chester pulls away and blushes while Moni sports the biggest and dopiest smile on her face until she focuses on us and then laughs. “Now you know how I feel when I see you and Rez kiss.”
