“Lord have mercy, my heart can’t handle this,” JP says, and the fireplace erupts once again.

“And with that, maybe we should call it a night. It’s beyond late,” Levi suggests, standing up and fixing his jacket.

If only erupting fireplaces were the least of our worries.

CHAPTER 10

Unbelievable Bully Secrets?

Rez

“Are you alright?” I ask Knots as we trudge back to the hallway where our rooms are.

“Yeah, it’s just a lot to take in.” Knots sighs.

“That’s what she said,” Lynx chirps, walking past us and snickering.

“Are you sure he’s lost his memory because I swear, he’s not acting like it,” he comments, squeezing my hand.

“That depends. Are you annoyed or amused that he’s not acting like it?” I ask, giving him a small, knowing smile.

“Both. It would be nice to pick up where we left off, but it’s unfair if he doesn’t remember,” Knots confesses. “So, are you sure?”

“Oh. I’m sure. But you heard her; Lilith said she can help with his memories. Do you think maybe she can help with yours?” I say hopefully, trying to cheer up my sour Door Knight.

“Maybe.” He sighs.

Zeke slows his steps so we can catch up with him. “Hey, Rez... Knots,” he says, giving us a small smile. “I was wondering if you would mind staying with me tonight, Rez? Or should I be asking to stay with you tonight? I’m not sure how that works with our rooms,” he admits, running his fingers through his ginger faux hawk.

Aww, my Vampire is nervous, and somehow, it makes him more vulnerable right now. Coming to a stop in front of my room, I turn toward Knots because I know he’s lost and confused. I, for one, understand how that feels, and I don’t want to leave him feeling that way. “Will you be okay?” I ask, worry evident in my tone.

He smiles as he pulls me into his embrace. “I am your protector. You shouldn’t be worrying about me.”

“I can’t help it. I worry about everyone I care about,” I admit, squeezing him back.

“I’ll be fine. I’ll shack up with the hairball tonight and promise not to skin him until he gets his memories back,” he jokes, giving me a lopsided smile. “I’ll have a good night’s sleep, and we can tackle all of this in the morning, okay?”

“Okay.” I reach up, and he gives me a sweet kiss on the lips. While my eyes are closed, he gives me another on my forehead. I smile as I feel him walk past. “Oww!” I shriek, turning around to find Knots running down the hall, laughing.

That little bastard just pinched my ass!

He follows Lynx into a room, sticking his head out to yell, “Told you so!” before slamming the door.

“What was all that for?” Zeke questions with a smile.

“He told me not to go out looking for Lynx by myself because I would get in trouble,” I admit, opening my door.

“Ahh. I see. A man after my own soul.” Zeke chuckles as he walks past me and looks around my room.

“Sure, if you want to be a man who’s going to be castrated soon.” I smile, looking over my shoulder. “I like you the way you are, though,” I say, turning around and leaning against the door.

“Oh, you do?” Zeke looks back at me and smiles slightly, popping a fang out.

I bite my bottom lip and push off the door to walk over to him. I’m glad he took the initiative and asked to spend time with me. I haven’t had any one-on-one time with him since the first day of school.

Shit, has it really been that long?

I walk into his arms as he lightly grips my hips as I wrap my arms around his neck. “Yeah. Just a little,” I say. Before I can do anything else, Zeke lets go of me and sits on my bed with his hands between his legs. I’m a little disappointed at the sudden shift, but curious as to why.
