“Oh… okay.” I pull out of her embrace and look up at her smiling face. Don’t piss off the crazy lady… my… holy shit. Lilith, the original Demon, is my mother-in-law.

The room starts shaking and Benny yells “I got it” as shields go over the valuables, securing them in place.

Lilith just gives me a knowing smile. “So what was it you wanted to say?” she asks, bringing me back to my point.

“Oh, yeah. Well, I know this sounds weird, but I don’t know who else to ask. But after solidifying my”—I clear my throat and swallow the lump forming there—“relationship with your sons, they, umm, received… kinda–well… a magical tattoo,” I stammer, and hold my breath as her eyebrows slowly raise toward her hairline until I can’t see them anymore.

“A tattoo?”

I nod.

“What kind of tattoo?”

“Well, you see, they are similar but all different,” I manage to get out as she stares at me with a new intensity I’ve never seen before.

“Go on.”

Shit. Maybe I shouldn’t have brought this up with the unstable and fragile Demon that loves to torture creatures here… in Hell… where I stand.

Gathering my courage, I state hesitantly, “Each of them has one of the Four Horsemen on them.” I scoot back, hitting the table as her eyes flash black for a moment.

She shakes her head and grabs her pearls as she starts mumbling to herself for a few moments. When I realize she’s repeating words, I try to pay attention.

“Four protectors bound in one soul,

Torn asunder through a hole.

Four souls split a part,

Tearing through a bleeding heart.

Climbing through the ranks of Hell,

The rebels you shall not repel.

Four young souls will embody thee.

To save us all, she will be the key.

Thy body will encompass true evil’s hate,

When gone for long without thy mates.

Win them back for true love’s power,

To tackle thy battle of the twelfth hour.

These tasks you must complete,

Or else all will be obsolete.”

She’s more or less in a trance as I stand here listening to her rhyme. I have no idea what it means, but I’m getting the creepy vibe until I see a streak of blue walk by.

“Murmur!” I yell.

“You rang?” he leans back and peers in.

“Help.”
