I ignored her comment.

Davina was an extremely smart girl, which was why I tolerated her existence. At twenty-three, she had just started her residency program. From what Aleksei had told me in passing, her goal was to be a surgeon someday.

Saving lives whilst her fiancé spent his days taking them. Poetic, if you asked me.

“Don’t you have work tomorrow?”

She glanced up at me, all five feet and five inches of her, with those big, hazel eyes. Although she was gorgeous, her eyes were her most noticeable feature. Her right eye had two big, yellow dots that stood out.

Her long, black hair was straight, and the red lipstick made her look very pretty.

Truth be told, she was too pretty for Aleksei.

“I do.” She sighed. “I’ll either go hungover or will not drink that severely. We’ll see.”

I chuckled. “Rhea just got off her house arrest, so I doubt she’ll let us go home without getting drunk.”

Rhea was usually the good kid. The kind, perfect, and annoying kid. She made the mistake of getting herself a boyfriend, and her brother wasn’t pleased with that. To spare the poor dude’s life, she broke it off, though he didn’t seem to get the hint. He continued to harass her until Helios put her on house arrest and then got rid of the kid.

We finally made it to the front of the line.

They inspected Davina first. Confidently, she stared ahead, not at the security in front of her. Where they barely spared me a glance, they bowed their heads to her. They fucking bowed their heads to her.

For someone who claimed to hate this world, she was too happy about that.

I’d brought one of Aleksei’s men with us, just in case I needed someone to help me out tonight. Of course, my plans remained a secret, and he wouldn’t have anything suspicious to report to my brother.

It took me a while to convince the front guards to let him in until Davina stepped in. The Pakhan’s woman truly had a lot of power that she was slowly getting used to. They let him in as soon as she commanded them. What a wonderful sight.

It was barely past ten in the evening, so the club was still empty. The music wasn’t too loud, though the atmosphere was great. It was the first time since summer that they’d opened it, and everyone was excited.

Rhea waved us over. A sigh of relief slipped; I was grateful that Rhea had listened. She’d arrived a while ago, and I specifically told her which booth to get. If you looked from the bar, there was an angle which was completely covered in darkness, and you wouldn’t be able to see who sat there.

That was my seat for the night, whilst the girls were across from me.

“I have gossip!” Rhea exclaimed, happy like a little kid, as soon as we sat down. A bottle of whiskey was in front of us with three glasses.

Davina seemed equally as intrigued. “I’m not a whiskey kind of girl, but I can definitely learn.”

Soon enough, Rhea started rambling on and on about some crime families. As the gossip girl of New York, Rhea knew everyone’s business. How? No one knew. She frequented a lot of events with her brother and had a good pair of ears, though I doubt that was the only reason.

Slowly, it became more and more crowded.

The DJ started playing the music, and the two were shouting loud enough so I wouldn’t be left out. Not that I actually gave a fuck. All of this was meaningless and irrelevant. When I wanted information on someone, I got it. The rest was just information that was unnecessary.

My eyes scanned every inch of the club. From people that were Aleksei’s enemies, to the people he worked with, all of them were there. They couldn’t see me, which was great, given that I might discover something interesting.

However, the only person who wasn’t there was my man.

The mere thought of him made my stomach twist in anticipation. I hadn’t seen him in two weeks. He’d been in California, killing people and having a blast. He’d earned quite a lot too, given that the victims were rising politicians. Of course, no one made the connection back to him.

He was supposed to be here.

A bubble of annoyance burst inside of me as Rhea snapped her fingers in front of my face. With a glare from me, she slowly withdrew her hand with a sheepish grin. I blinked, urging her to speak since her expression told me she was more than curious about something.

“So, Kaya.” She cleared her throat. That fucking nickname. “What’s up?”

“What?”
