“Yes,” he confirmed confidently. “However, he will suspect that he either has a spy among his men or that some of our people are here. Firstly, he’ll send a few of his to scout out the premises, and that’s when we attack.”

Then, he turned to look at me, serious like I’d never seen him before. “No matter what you do, do not allow yourself to go down to the basement or up to the attic. If they get you, kick, scream, do whatever you have to do, but do not allow yourself to be taken to either of those places. Do you understand me?”

I blinked. “Yes. But, why?”

“Adrik has a detonator on him. We’ve planted bombs in the basement and the attic. If it comes to that, we’ll blow all of them to pieces.”

“Odd places to place bombs if you ask me.”

Danila laughed. “True, but it will get most of the building blown to bits at once. We couldn’t do it on the first floor since we wanted to corner them first, and they would see the bombs. And for our safety, we didn’t plant them here.”

“Fine then. No basement and no attic for me,” I repeated his words. “Works for me. I don’t plan on dying tonight.”

“Good.”

He was about to speak again, but we both turned our heads to the left, glancing briefly out of the window. A few cars had pulled up and parked, loud men emerging from inside of the vehicles.

“Showtime, Miss Kaya.” He grinned. “Are you ready?”

“I was born ready.”

As cliche as it sounded, I truly felt in my soul that I was born for this moment. I was his personal Satan, and my father was about to meet the version of me he craved to have for himself.

Ruthless, fearless, brutal—the monster that I truly was.

The sound of my enemies was closer, and the need to simply jump out and open fire was almost too great. It took all of my strength to suppress the need to show myself right now.

I was not bulletproof.

But I was going to be the deadly bullet that took their lives.

My mouth twitched, then morphed into a wide grin. My eyes widened, and a low laugh came from me. The excitement was unbelievable. This night would turn into a catastrophe, and it would carry on my name.

Ekaterina Kalashnikova, the devil herself.

TWENTY-THREE

EKATERINA

Murmurs, obnoxious laughter, and footsteps were all I could hear.

It was a miracle that I was able to hear it at all. My heart was pounding in my ears, and I could’ve sworn I saw the outline of the organ on my chest.

Danila already had his gun drawn, ready to fire at any moment. It should’ve made me more at ease, and it definitely would’ve, had I not discovered that he might be working for the enemy an hour ago.

I whipped out my gun and made sure that it was prepared. I didn’t know where this night would lead me or how rough it would be. I’d hoped it wouldn’t be too easy because then I wouldn’t get the dose of ego boost I’d been waiting for, but I did hope it didn’t prove to be overly difficult.

They kept coming.

I heard another couple of cars pull up.

In my head, I did some basic math, and there were approximately thirty of them.

I had no idea who they were or how strong or intelligent they were, so I couldn’t act in haste. And given how Danila was positioned in front of me, I would’ve had to knock him out to get past him. But that was a beast I didn’t want to provoke, so I bit my tongue and waited.

Faintly, I heard a voice from Danila’s earpiece. It was too quiet for me to understand the words or recognize the voice, but the way his shoulders became rigid gave me the chills.

He turned around and looked at me from over his shoulder. Then, he pointed to the ground with his index finger, and I nodded my head.
