“Yes, and it’s one of them.” He motioned with his head towards Ilya and Danila.

A mole?

A fucking mole?

When Aleksei recruited men for the Bratva, not only did they undergo a harsh training, but they were never people he’d even think would dare to betray him. Ilya had been with Dominik since they were kids. Nothing Bogdan had offered him would’ve made him betray my brothers.

Of course, his boss was Dominik. But even though he never truly liked Aleksei, he respected him. Feared him. He couldn’t have betrayed him.

Danila, on the other hand, joined later and immediately clicked with Dominik and Ilya. They became an inseparable trio long before Dominik had an official position in the business. And after that, whilst they were earning respect and working hard, the three of them were like the Three Musketeers.

“Absolutely not.”

Adrik didn’t like my answer. “It’s not been confirmed. I’m telling you to be careful, little lion.”

As we walked back towards where the two of them stood, a bubble of doubt rose in my mind. With this information, regardless of its accuracy, I had to be on alert at all times. Thankfully, I never wore my feelings on my sleeve, and they couldn’t have read my expressions even if they tried.

“Let’s go.” Ilya urged us towards the building, walking in front of me.

It was showtime.

“You’d think he would stick by my side,” I mumbled, but it was loud enough for Danila to hear it. His response was a laugh as we went up the stairs. Ilya had averted Adrik’s attention from me, and my man just followed him. It pissed me off.

The building reeked.

Chemicals, blood, and whatever else had all mixed together. It reminded me of death. I gagged four times in one minute. For a moment, I contemplated whether or not Adrik had been right about me not coming here. That was a fleeting thought before I managed to pull my head out of my ass.

“Don’t worry, Miss Kaya.” For the first time, Danila’s respectful tone made me uneasy. “I’ll guard you with my life.”

I rolled my eyes. “That’s a given.”

Once we reached the top, I saw other men there. They greeted Danila with a nod, which he reciprocated. However, not all of them revealed their hiding places. I could feel them but not see them, and that was perfect.

Danila placed his palm on my shoulder and pointed to the left. We walked together until we reached a huge shelf that seemed to be used as an archive. It was thick and wide enough to hide both of us in plain sight, given that the building lacked light.

“What now?” I asked, impatiently tapping my foot on the floor.

“Now we wait until they come here,” he stated. He studied me for a brief moment before speaking again. “What’s on your mind?”

I leaned against the shelf before slumping and sitting down. “I just can’t wait until all of this is over.”

He gave me a reassuring smile that made my stomach twist. “Everything will be fine. Not a single strand of hair will be missing from your head.”

I chuckled. “Of course. But that’s not what I’m worried about.”

He pried further. “Then what is it?”

“It just feels like a dream. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. Now that it’s here, it’s surreal. I want it to end the way I decide.”

“You can use me as your weapon or your shield, and I’ll gladly be used.”

Of course I’d use him. I’d let almost everyone here die if it meant accomplishing my goal. It was brutal, but it’s who I was. I truly did not care about anyone here aside from Adrik. They were irrelevant to me, and their existence was replaceable.

“Plan-wise, how will this work?” I changed the subject.

Danila sat down next to me and cleared his throat. “My best guess is that by now, your father knows that Belushi opened his mouth. However, he will either come here or go to the other location. He knows he can’t run forever, and, just like us, he wants this to be over with.”

I nodded my head. “So, he’ll come regardless.”
