My lips lift as all my ideas for the future play through my mind.

My phone vibrates in my hand, and I answer without looking at it. “Hello.”

“Mikhail, I have news for you.” My body stiffens at the voice. I should’ve checked my caller ID.

“Brendan. What do you have?”

“We found out who was recruiting among our ranks and stealing the weapons from us.”

“Who?”

“It was Mallory Jones. She was a part of the German Mafia, but she is no longer a problem.”

Relief fills my body. “Good to know. What do you need?”

“Nothing. I just wanted to let you know. I’m leaving, heading out west and taking Suri with me.”

“Does Ella know?”

“Suri is going to be telling her later.”

“Good.”

The line goes dead and I put my phone away. Grabbing my bag, I head up to her room to get settled.

A few hours later, when Ella comes home from work, I greet her at the door. She gives me a huge smile. “What a surprise! What are you doing here?”

“I hope it’s a good surprise,” I say, kissing her on the cheek. I fucking love that she blushes from my touch.

Grabbing her hand, I lead us into the kitchen where I have a glass of wine waiting for her. Placing it in front of her, she looks at me through her beautiful lush lashes, “Mmm…I could get used to this.”

“Good, I’ve been thinking since you won’t move in with me at the penthouse. I’m going to move in here with you.”

Ella sputters her wine as I finish speaking. “W…what?”

“I’m moving in here,” I reiterate.

“No, it's too early. We haven’t been dating long.”

Cupping her face, I soften toward her, “Baby girl, it doesn’t matter how long it's been. I know deep down you are it for me.”

Her eyes glisten with the tears that she’s holding back. My hand goes to brush the box I have in my pocket. Twitching to grab it and make her mine officially, but I know it’s too soon. Her reaction was a sign, I need to be careful how I handle this.

A loud ring echoes around the room, we both look down and stare at the phone that’s sitting on the counter. It’s the hospital. Ella lets out a cute gasp, neither of us moving when Ella picks up her phone. “Hello.”

I listen to her one-sided conversation and see the devastation and worry on her face.

“Okay, thank you, I will be there as soon as I can.”

Ella hangs up. I can tell that the news isn't good. Her whole body is shaking as she tries to move frantically about the kitchen to gather her things.

“Ella,” I call.

But she doesn’t hear me. She keeps going, dropping stuff and muttering curses under her breath. “Shit.”

When she goes to recover the keys she dropped, I stop her by wrapping my hand around her small wrist. “Ella, baby girl, talk to me.”

Keeping her gaze down at the floor, she starts to speak. Her emotions have her in a choke hold but she still tries to push through. “T…that was the hospital, my dad isn’t doing well. They want me to come see him.”
