“Why do you call me that?”

“Well, the obvious is that you’re blonde, but you light up my life. You’re bright like the sun, and no matter what you say, do, or where you go, I’m drawn to you.”

He’s called me this since the very beginning. Maybe I should believe him when he says his life changed the moment he met me.

“But you didn’t get on one knee. What kind of proposal is that?”

“Is that an important detail to you?”

“Of course it is. Every girl wants their man down on his knee.”

And don’t you know, in front of everyone, Briggs takes a step back and drops to one knee. I gasp, my hand flying to cover my mouth. Of all the times he’s asked, he’s never gotten down on one knee.

Bending over, I silently ask him, “This isn’t about your brother, is it?”

He smiles up at me like I hung the moon. “No, Cora. This is all about you. You and me. Will you marry me?”

He reaches into his pocket, pulls out a loose diamond ring, and holds it up to me. It’s a single solitaire diamond, and it’s so beautiful my breath catches.

“Briggs,” I whisper.

The band has stopped playing, and now everyone stares at us.

“Goldie?” He pops one brow and then gives me the most devastatingly handsome smile.

How could I ever say anything else?

“Yes. Yes, I will marry you.”

I bend at the waist, grab his face, and kiss him. The whole room cheers.

Standing, he slips the ring on my finger, kisses my left hand, and then pulls me straight off the ground and into his arms. Home, my soul sings.

“Finally,” he says, his lips teasing mine.

“I can’t believe you just had this ring in your pocket!” I hold my hand up behind his head and stare at it.

“I’ve been carrying that ring around since the third time I asked you. I knew eventually you would say yes, and I had to be ready.”

“You really are an incredible man.”

“I’m just so happy we’re doing the damn thing.”

I pull back and look at him. “Italy?”

“Most definitely.” His smile stretches from ear to ear, and I’m so happy my eyes blur while at the same time I laugh.

“How much do we think that will piss everyone off?” I ask him.

“Ask me if I care,” he says, closing the distance between us and properly kissing me.

This kiss is sweet and naughty at the same time. This kiss is so Briggs, and I love it. But not as much as I love him.

“You care. Five minutes ago, you asked me if I was in the mood to one-up them tonight. So maybe it’s a little about him?” I tease.

“Maybe.” He shrugs, still smiling as he sets me down.

Both of us turn to look at Jaxon and Adele. Her mouth is open, and her face is beet red with annoyance. On the other hand, one corner of his mouth quirks up, and he just shakes his head. He knows what we’ve done and why we’ve done it, and he still gives us a smile. A real one. Maybe their relationship isn’t a lost cause after all.

And maybe our prank wars don’t have to end. We might have just found a new target, and knowing us, he better watch out.

THE END
