"Wh…What do you mean?" she said with a trembling voice.

I raised a brow, daring her to surprise me and admit that she had been involved in some very delicious alone time with a sex toy. "You don't understand the question, Felicity?"

At that point, there was no difference between her face and a tomato. "Uh…Last night? I mean…yeah. I…uh…was…uh….”

I bit back a smile. "Felicity?"

"Hmm?"

"You said you didn't like personal questions. Does that also apply to general inquiries?"

"Um…" She bit her lower lip, the innocent action sending blood rushing to a certain organ that had no business being hard at the moment.

"Uh…" She blew out a breath before blurting out almost unintelligible. "Last night was fine. I went to bed pretty early, and nothing happened."

I couldn't help it. I laughed. "Okay. What's with the baggy clothes?"

Felicity looked down at herself like she didn't know she wore big clothes. Then her eyes lifted to mine. "Oh. I don't like tight clothes. They make me feel—"

"Exposed?" I offered.

She nodded, biting her lower lip. I was beginning to think it was a habit of hers. I was also starting to think Felicity wasn’t shy like she made the world believe, and just struggled with her self-confidence. I would know, seeing as I'd once been there.

I also knew that to feel small, there had to be a catalyst that triggered it. Mine had been the woman who birthed me, and it made me wonder who Felicity's trigger was. Her parents? A sibling? A friend? Or perhaps a boyfriend?

The last one left a sour taste in my mouth.

"Aside from drawing, what else do you like to do?" I asked.

I didn't see it coming, the light that suddenly appeared in her eyes. "Video games. It's like the best thing in the world. I love the rush that comes with escaping from the mundane and disappearing into a world where control lies in my hands—literally. Even if unforeseen circumstances pop up, I can always navigate them." She sighed, then let out a soft chuckle. “Agency. That's it."

It was the most she'd said to me, and I was willing to bet one of my balls the most she’d ever said to anyone in this office. The best word to describe what I felt as I took in the smile on her face and the dreamy look in her eyes could only be mesmerized. Felicity seemed like a different person, not the anti-social graphic designer who kept to herself and only spoke in monosyllables.

I liked this, Felicity.

"You mentioned your favorite game is Jungle Justice,” I said.

She nodded. "You did too."

"Yeah. What do you like most about it?" Was I delusional in hoping she'd say it was me? I was.

Her cheeks were stained pink. "I have a friend I play with. He…uh…makes it kind of fun."

Bingo.

I bit back my smile, running a hand lazily through my hair as I tried without luck to suppress the feeling of joy that spread within me. "Fun, huh? Is he someone special?"

I could've sworn she was about to answer before her eyes glazed over. She pursed her lips like she did yesterday when she offered to come back. "That's a personal question."

Shit. She was tough. I held up my hands in the universal sign of surrender, nodding. The last thing I wanted was to push her away and have her go back into her shell.

"Alright. I'll give,” I admitted. I would get her to open up to me one way or another. Felicity had no idea how much I loved challenges; she was proving to be the biggest challenge I'd encountered in two years.

"You're somewhat popular, you know," she said. Her eyes didn't seem guarded like they did a few seconds ago. "I've seen you on Game Weekly a few times."

Game Weekly, a stupid gaming channel that loved to suck the life out of whoever they thought was the current shit in the name of publicity.

I awarded Felicity with a grin. "Just somewhat?"
