Fuck.

I was an idiot.

I kept my head down until he was seated and wouldn’t have looked at him if he hadn't placed a finger on my jaw and turned my head to face him. His hair was ruffled like he'd run his hand through the locks about a hundred times. My gaze dropped to his lips, the recollection of how rough they'd been on mine yesterday sending a shiver down my spine. Before I could delve into that, I snapped my eyes back to his.

Gray eyes with a hint of blue flecks stared back at me. Beautiful, enchanting eyes that now haunted my nights with delicious promises of pleasure.

"I don't care if you don't believe me, but you look beautiful," he whispered.

The words warmed me. He was right: I didn't believe him, but they were flattering, nonetheless. In truth, there was nothing beautiful about my dark blue, ankle-length skirt and white button-down shirt.

"Thank you,” I hushed.

"Wanna tell me who the bastard is?" he raised a brow, lowering his finger.

I blinked, missing the warmth of his skin on mine. "Who?"

Aaron's eyes had darkened, and he actually looked angry. "The one you like."

"Oh.” So he had heard. I almost laughed at the absurdity of the whole thing. “No one.”

“Felicity, in case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been trying to get your attention for the past two weeks. If there’s someone else you like who isn’t me, tell me his name so I can find him and kill him.”

I did laugh then, only because he looked like an angry bull ready to clear everything in its path. “You can’t be serious.”

“Damn right, I am. Name. Now.”

“It’s no one, Aaron. I was telling Maddy a story.”

He didn’t believe me one bit. I could see it in his eyes. It really didn’t matter, anyway. No good could come from liking him. Aside from the fact that I’d sworn off men for the rest of my life, my father would ruin his career if word ever got to him that Aaron was trying to court me, and I couldn’t let that happen.

Not only did I not want to get into that kind of drama, but I also couldn’t put Aaron in that position. He had worked so hard to get to where he was in his career, and there was no way I would have that on my conscience.

“Why are you here anyway? I’ve never seen you have lunch in the cafeteria,” I asked him, risking a glance at Maddy, whose neck was red from the teases that Arjun was currently throwing her way. I swear something was going on between them. Maddy never blushed.

“I wanted to see you.” He shrugged. “And to invite you to my place tonight.”

My eyes widened, and I had to pause for a second to be sure I’d heard him right. “Your place? Why?”

There was a small smile playing on his lips. “Get your mind out of the gutter, Felicity. I know you want me and all, but I was actually hoping we could do some work. You know, now that we have a short project window. I want to see more of your sketches.”

Being alone with Aaron? Sounded like a recipe for disaster.

So, why the hell was I considering it? "Uh…for how long?"

"Overnight, if you want." He shrugged again. "I know how much you enjoy my company, and I would not deny you the opportunity."

I rolled my eyes. "Your arrogance is astounding."

"So I've heard. What time should I expect you?"

I raised a blow. "I never said I was coming."

"Not yet, anyway,” he said in a low voice, the sound carrying past the distance between us and settling around me like a warm blanket. I recognized the heat in his voice for what it was, a promise of something decadent yet sweet. Dangerous yet exciting.

My body burned instantly as memories of what he was capable of flooded my mind, and my thighs clenched instinctively.

All I had to do was say “No” and end this—reject his invitation and let everything else go. But at the back of my mind, a thought gnawed. What if I never got to experience this again? This exhilaration? This kind of thrilling need? Fear of the unknown but unmatched excitement? One that hummed my body to life whenever Aaron was nearby?
