If I do not punish her for disobeying me, others will think they can do the same. I don't want to appear weak to anyone, least of all to her.

One of the screens flashes with an image of her inky hair blowing in the breeze in the garden. She stands with a maid—her permanent caretaker since she has proven that she cannot be trusted to be alone—and the pair of them talk.

Anna’s eyebrows pull together, her full lips moving. Distress is clear on her pinched face.

Even when she is having what I assume to be one of the worst days of her life, she is still beautiful.

Just as beautiful as the day I first saw her on the plane.

When I saw her that day, it was like an angel had come to earth. She was going to be my salvation not only for that flight but also long after. I would have slowly broken her in and made her mine.

And then she had the audacity to run when I came looking for her. She did not appreciate the life that I would have given her.

What a mistake that has been for you, princess. You should have trusted that I would take care of you. That I would be good to you.

I would have taken care of her the way she should have been cared for as long as she followed the rules. She wouldn’t have had to worry or want for anything.

Her life would have been good if she had just stayed with me instead of running away.

This isn’t going to end well for you if this little rebellious streak continues.

She bends down to a tulip bush and gently plucks the flower. She is too innocent and so fucking adorable; she can’t even hurt a plant.

Anna holds the tulip between her fingers as she stands, sniffing it before holding it out to the maid. The maid, Rosita, stares at her like she doesn’t know what to expect next.

Rosita nods as Anna steps forward and tucks the flower behind Rosita’s hair.

It seems that nobody can resist your charm, little angel, even if I pay them to do so.

I sigh and lean back in the leather chair, watching Anna drag her fingers through a fountain. She reaches into the pocket of her dress—the one I had Rosita make sure Anna wore—and drops breadcrumbs onto the edge of the fountain.

Colorful birds flit down from the trees, perching on the edge of the fountain.

It seems like I found myself a little Snow White. Even the fucking wildlife wants to please her.

My scowl deepens, wrinkles creasing across my forehead as I steeple my fingers beneath my chin.

It’s unfortunate that she got on my bad side. In another life, she would be the kind of person who would dedicate her time on earth to helping the world around her.

But in this life, she is tied to me whether she likes it or not.

I watch her for a few moments longer as the breeze sends the short strands of Anna’s hair flying. She grins and kneels on the ground, picking up some discarded petals and sprinkling them back into the dirt at the base of the plant.

What the fuck is this shit?

Anna is making it hard to want to kill her when she takes care of everything around her.

There are still several months before I can punish her though. If the baby is indeed mine, then I want it to grow to be strong and healthy. No child of the Bratva is going to be sickly because I did not take care of their mother.

There is a knock at the door before it opens and Denis walks in. His green eyes shine with annoyance as he holds an envelope in his hand.

“Leon is being a royal pain in the ass today. He wants to get to know Anna and Rosita is having a hell of a time keeping him away from her.”

I glower as I lean forward and snatch the envelope from Denis. “Why the fuck would Leon want to get to know Anna?”

She is mine. My brother knows this, and he knows that he has no business with her.

Denis sits down in the leather chair, shrugging as he glances at the camera feeds. “He thinks that she is carrying your child and has it in his head that he has to be a good uncle before the baby is here.”
