“Where is she?”

I rolled my eyes. “You didn’t need to rush over,” I said, although the pillow kind of muffled it.

“What was that?” Dominic asked.

“She’s on the couch,” a second male voice said.

The timber sent a shiver down my spine.

Was that…

I pulled the pillow off my face and the first person I saw was him.

Sebastian fucking Steele.

As I live and breathe.

What on Earth was he doing in my house?

I narrowed my eyes. “What are you doing here?”

Sebastian slid his hands into his pockets, a hint of a smile pulling at the corner of his lips. The man was sex on a stick. His fitted suit cut perfectly around his lean muscles. His dark auburn hair was cropped close to his head, like some sort of military cut and his dark brown eyes held a hint of mirth.

He towered over me; he was easily six and a half feet tall and the size difference felt all the more acute since I was sitting down.

My brother lifted my legs, gently setting them down on the ground so he could scoot onto the couch next to me. I adjusted to get a better look at the pair of them.

I cleared my throat. “What are you both doing here?”

Dominic’s brows furrowed. “I was worried about you. Daisy filled me in on what happened. And what the hell happened to your eye?”

“I ran into a doorknob.”

Daisy ratted me out. “It wasn’t a doorknob. One of those jerks hit her.”

“They hit you?” Dominic asked.

I waved him off. “Accidental elbow to the face. No big deal.” Except it certainly felt like a big deal because my body was shivering even though it was a balmy seventy degrees in my apartment.

I glanced at Sebastian. “And you? Why are you here?”

Sebastian dragged his thumb across his full lower lip. “I was with him.”

“And you decided it would be fun to tag along?” I didn’t know why it bothered me so much.

Actually, that’s not true. I knew exactly why I didn’t want him here. I was embarrassed. It was bad enough I had a shitty night and my brother had to come to my rescue, but bringing his handsome friend who I knew didn’t like me? That just made it ten times worse.

Daisy stepped forward. “Okay…let’s take a beat. I’m going to get everyone something to drink.”

She started to walk by me, and I caught her arm. “Will you see if the pie is ready?”

Daisy patted my shoulder. “Of course, maybe it’s only slightly rock solid now.”

I crossed my fingers. “Here’s hoping.”

I took a steadying breath and faced the two men who were staring at me. While Dominic was next to me, Sebastian still hovered nearby. “Can you take a seat or something?”

He grumbled under his breath but did as he was told. The distance made it easier for me to breathe.
