I homed in on my brother. “Seriously, Bro. You didn’t need to run here. It’s fine.”

“Tell me what happened.”

“You just told me you knew everything already.”

Dominic crossed his ankle at the knee. “I want to hear it from you. Start from the beginning.”

Daisy placed drinks in front of both the men before heading back to the kitchen. The pie was noticeably absent.

My brother pinched my leg, and I flinched.

“Ow, that hurt.” I rubbed the offending spot.

“Start talking.”

My gaze flitted to Sebastian, before landing back on my brother.

I heaved a dramatic sigh. “I taught my art class at the library. Daisy and I decided it would be fun to do a girls’ night here, so we walked home only to find a few paparazzi stationed outside the building.”

“How long have you had issues with the paparazzi?”

I chewed the inside of my cheek.

“How long, Faith?” Dominic demanded.

Daisy returned, still no pie in hand.

Sebastian scooted forward in his chair, hands woven together in front of him as his forearms rested on his thighs. “They hurt you. Was this the first time?” His voice was all growly.

I stared at his knuckles, watching them whiten.

“Faith, are the paparazzi harassing you?” Sebastian demanded again, his voice deep. A groove formed between his brows almost as if he were worried about me.

“They’ve been outside every day since Dad’s heart attack. Sometimes there’s only one. Sometimes there’s upwards of ten. Sometimes it makes me not want to come home at night.”

I saw Sebastian’s jaw tighten. “Why don’t you want to come home at night?”

Ignoring him, I directed my response to my brother. “This isn’t like I’m going out and partying with a bunch of people and wanting to get photographed. This is them staking out so they can get information about you, Dad, and the company. It just is a constant reminder that Dad almost died.” I choked on my words hating that I felt weak.

“Oh, sweetheart,” Daisy said, coming to wrap her arm around me in a sisterly hug. I squeezed her tight, grateful she was here.

“I can start calling the press, try to get them to back off,” my brother said.

I only laughed. “Like that’s going to work. You know you gotta feed the beast. They won’t leave me alone until they get what they want.”

“And it seems like they are getting more brazen. It’s not enough to get your photo but to get close enough to clip you. That’s dangerous,” Sebastian added, anger dripping from his tone.

Daisy and Dominic shared a look.

“Then maybe we need to give them something to talk about,” Dominic said.

“No,” I said firmly, not wanting them to be the sacrificial lambs. “You’re absolutely not going to do anything with the press.”

Dominic pursed his lips. “What if I get my best PR team on it?”

“Kiki would do anything you needed,” Daisy chimed in. Kiki was Daisy’s best friend and former college roommate. She recently married Dominic’s other best friend, Jerome, in St. Lucia a few weeks back. I didn’t know the woman well but apparently she kicked ass at her job, according to Daisy.

I held up my hands. “Seriously, that’s unnecessary. This isn’t some PR crisis. I don’t have a sex tape, I didn’t cheat on anyone, there isn’t really a story here other than my life.”
