“You sure?” He kept his voice low.

“Mmhmm.” I lifted my head and stepped out of the vehicle. Charlie was there a second later. He had the good sense to take me back to Luna’s.

By some miracle, I remembered the access code Luna had given me in case I needed to get home while she was out since I knew she’d be at the club by now, busy with her empire.

The lights were low, the house was quiet.

“Let me get you some water,” Charlie insisted. “Are you okay on your own?”

He’d been hovering.

Suddenly, I was parched. “Water would be great.”

I sank down into the nearest chair, a fun velvet piece that felt like it belonged in a bachelorette pad, although I supposed that was exactly what this home was for Luna. The ultimate in feminine luxury.

Charlie handed me a drink before taking out his cell and making a call. He was probably filling in Beck and maybe even Sebastian.

Ugh. I couldn’t handle anyone else today.

I managed to walk upstairs and fell face first on the bed in the guest room where I’d been staying. The fluffy white comforter surrounded me in a sea of fabric, lulling me into a dreamless sleep.

FORTY-SEVEN

SEBASTIAN

My phone chimed like a slot machine in Vegas.

Ping. Ping. Ping.

“Fucking hell, who died?”

I snapped up the device and found fifty plus notifications, all of which had one key word that had my stomach in my throat: Faith Waters.

Unlocking my phone, I swiped to get the info. Alerts poured in from various sources.

I had my jacket in my hands before I even knew what I was doing.

Then the screen changed. An incoming call from Beck.

I answered immediately. “I saw. I’m on my way.”

“My guy assured me she’s safe.”

I grunted in approval. “I assume he’s still watching her?”

“He took her home immediately. She was shaken up. It sounded like a panic attack.”

I hightailed it out of my apartment, letting the door lock behind me as I frantically punched the down button on the elevator. So much for wanting to give Faith her space.

The elevator chimed twenty seconds later. Not quickly enough. When the elevator made it to the bottom floor without picking up additional passengers, I gave a silent thanks to the universe and flagged down the first taxi that passed by.

Beck started to tell me what happened at the restaurant Faith had been at.

“I want to talk to your guy directly. Hear it from him.”

So Beck shared the contact info and a moment later someone answered. “Go for Charlie.”

“Tell me everything that happened with Faith. Don’t leave out any details.”
