I put in my earbuds while he shared what went down. In a few clicks I had photos from different vantage points—all spectators posting to social media. It was picked up by a number of larger gossip pages and broadcasted to the masses.

A man that must have been Charlie stood sentinel outside of Luna’s brownstone. In a few large strides, I swallowed the distance to the front door.

“She went to bed.” Those were his first words. “Luna gave me clearance to let you in, but I wanted you to know. It’s probably the adrenaline wearing off. There were a lot of people surrounding her and now that she’s safe, she crashed.”

I nodded. My body was eager to rush in there, but I held myself back. The last thing I wanted to do was go barging in and freak her out. “Are you staying here?”

Charlie nodded at a parked car. “I’ll take my watch from there until my relief shows up. You have my phone number now in case you need it.”

I shook his hand and entered the code Luna gave me, closing the door quietly behind me.

Sure enough, the house was mostly dark, a few stray lights turned on, probably so nobody coming home would run into anything.

Luna wouldn’t be home until the wee hours of the morning, and it was barely sundown. Though I’d never been to her house, Luna relayed where I could find the guest bedroom, and subsequently Faith, over a quick phone call.

I easily found the bedroom, and crawled into bed with her, tugging her close.

She released a soft sigh, and I held her tight, playing in my head all the images I’d seen of her.

The one thing that stood out the most was that she looked scared. Hearing about her panic attack was nearly enough to send me over the edge, but to actually see it on her face had unsettled me beyond words.

That I wasn’t there for her. That I didn’t protect her. That people felt entitled to crowd her and make her feel unsafe.

No woman should ever feel that way.

And I promised to do everything in my power to prevent her from feeling that way again.

She woke up moaning my name. There was no sweeter sound than that.

“I’m here,” I assured her, splaying my hand on her flat abdomen, my favorite spot just under her breast.

“You came,” she said sleepily. “I’m so glad you came.”

My lips found the curve of her shoulder, and slowly I trailed to that sensitive spot behind her ear. She reached back, holding my head in place for a brief second, a silent askance to keep going before she dropped her hand between us.

I hissed as her palm found my morning wood. A fucking rod between us.

It felt good, but I mustered up all my fucking willpower and gently lifted her hand off of me. “That’s not why I came here.”

She shifted her hips back in protest. “But I want you, Sebastian Steele.” Her voice was husky with sleepiness.

I tilted my head to the ceiling, willing myself to resist her. “I came to check on you.”

Faith held on tight to the arm I banded around her.

I nipped at her ear. “I need to know if you’re okay.”

“I’m fine now that you’re here.”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

“I’d much rather you fuck me senseless.”

“Fuck,” I groaned into her hair. It smelled of her citrusy shampoo. I threaded my fingers in it, pulling it together in a ponytail that I wrapped around my wrist.

A sharp inhale.
