“Oh, yeah? Why’s that?”

“Indecent exposure.”

His eyes lit up. “You want me to fuck you on this park bench? You filthy girl.”

I squeezed my thighs together. “We should probably stop the dirty talk now.”

Sebastian exhaled. “Fine. We’ll place a moratorium on dirty talk until we get this conversation over with. For the record, I was upset at the restaurant because I don’t want my background to leave a stain on you.”

I softened next to him. “Sebastian, you’re a good man. I know that. A stupid article isn’t going to convince me otherwise.”

“That article doesn’t paint a pretty picture, Faith.”

I laughed. “What gossip article paints a good picture, Seb? Besides, I know all about pretty pictures. Messy and real beats pretty any day.”

Those eyes of his pierced me, searching my face as if trying to judge my sincerity.

Wanting to be closer to him, I whipped a leg up and over his lap, straddling him on the bench. It wasn’t the most comfortable position, but the nearness helped. I wanted him to hear me, even if I had to hog tie him to this bench.

“Tell me what happened. Why did the article freak you out so much?”

His hands tightened around my waist. “I was young.”

“How young?”

“A kid.” And he told me the whole story about how he protected his mother. It infuriated me that he had to take on so much so young. How he had to step in when someone tried to hurt his mom. My heart broke for that little Sebastian who became a man hell bent on protecting those around him.

I pinched him, thoroughly pissed off. “You seriously thought I would be stained by your past? Thought I would care about that?”

“I beat someone up, Faith.”

“In self-defense! That’s hardly the same thing as going out and looking for a fight. It's not like you were some bad guy going out and beating people up for fun."

Sebastian hung his head. "I couldn't stop."

I tilted his chin up. "You didn't stop until the police arrived. You couldn't take any chances. Not with your mom."

A tear streaked down his cheek. This big, strong man let me in. See him vulnerable. It was enough to prickle my eyes.

I shook my head and blinked a few times.

Sebastian kissed away my tears as I wrapped my arms around him.

This man understands me. There was something there. Something special.

We just needed to let it happen.

"You were trying to push me away," I berated him.

"I tend to do that."

"Yes, I should have remembered that about you. I remember everything about you."

"I'm sorry."

"Are you sorry for pushing me away or are you sorry because you don't want to fight for this?" Time to lay it on the table. "Do you want all this? Life with me?"

"Do you want this life with me?" he countered.
