Noticing, Faith wagged a finger at me. “You told me to make this place a home. That’s basically giving me carte blanche to make changes. Your house is practically perfect. I’m just making itty bitty improvements.” Her voice got progressively higher.

A small candle sat in the center of the coffee table and a fresh bouquet of flowers found a home above the fireplace. They were bright and vibrant, reminding me of someone else I knew. A laugh bubbled up from my chest as Faith continued to argue that it was her right to buy stuff for the house. “I know it’s your house, but I want it to feel a little bit mine too.”

I crooked a finger. “Come here.”

Faith huffed, sulking over to me as she continued to argue. I was pretty sure she wasn’t even stopping to take a breath. I kissed her firmly on the lips. She pulled away to argue more.

“Faith.”

“Yes?” She sighed.

“I missed you.”

That little confession elicited a small smile, her features softening. “I missed you too.”

“Add as many candles, blankets, and flower arrangements as you like. Just leave the office alone.”

“About that…”

I tightened my grip on her. “What did you add to my office?”

“I think you’ll like it.”

I pinched her ass. “I better.”

We could barely keep our hands to ourselves even as I trekked to my office, ready to assess the damage.

Everything appeared as I’d left it. At least at first glance. As I approached the desk, I found something small and rectangular added: A simple black photo frame with a picture of me, Faith, and Willow whose big tongue was on Faith’s cheek as the woman I loved laughed, her eyes alight in surprise.

Faith stood on the balls of her feet. “What do you think?”

“I love it.”

“I thought you needed a little of me in here since you tend to lose yourself in your work. Just a little reminder that you have two women who love you.”

“And I appreciate the simple frame.”

She rolled her eyes. “It’s boring, but I thought you’d like it.”

“It’s perfect.”

She nodded toward my chair. “You should take a seat.”

My brow furrowed. “There’s more?”

Faith put her hands on my back and gently nudged me toward the computer chair. I stood in front of it.

“Well, sit down.” I gave her a funny look but did as she asked. Then she patted my shoulders before walking around my desk to take the seat across from me.

Something behind her immediately caught my eye.

A painting.

Not just any painting. A Faith Waters original.

One I hadn’t seen before. I stood, crossing the room to take a better look at it. My fingers grazed the canvas, the raised bits where paint collided. “When did you do this?”

Faith slid her arms around my waist, her head cocked around my middle to get a look at her creation. “I started painting it the second you left for your trip. I had this vision of it and wanted to get it down as soon as possible so it could be ready for you when you returned.”
