“I figured that could be your job.”

She holds him out, studying his face and the little patch of white on his forehead while he wiggles and squirms. “How about Goliath?”

“He’s tiny.” I laugh.

“I know, that’s what makes it funny.”

Damn, I love this woman.

“I mean, it doesn’t have to be Goliath, but it’d be hilarious to pick a name of a really huge character, like…” She pulls him close, nestling him against her chest. “Who’s the giant from The Princess Bride?”

“Fezzik.” I used to watch that movie all the time when I was a kid. I grin, scratching between the dog’s ears. “I like it. Let’s go with Fezzik.”

She gives me a loving smile before holding the puppy out. “Hey, Fezzik. Welcome to the family, kiddo.”

“Yay!” Rachel can no longer contain herself and rushes into the room, taking a seat beside Caroline so they can swoon over the puppy together. Mikayla soon gets in on the action, and I’m shunted out of the way so the girls can fawn over the new man in their lives.

I stand back with a frown, crossing my arms and watching them until Ethan and Liam flank me.

“Dude, what did you do?” Ethan shakes his head.

“Come on.” I nudge him with my elbow. “Look how happy she is.”

“Puppies are a lot of work,” Liam murmurs.

I turn to him with a grin. “That’s okay. All of you guys are here to help me.”

“I didn’t sign up for that.” He shakes his head.

“Looks like your woman doesn’t mind.” I grin. “I’m guessing she’ll be over here a lot more wanting to hang with the new man in this house.”

“So, that’s why you bought it? As a chick magnet?” Ethan raises his eyebrows at me.

“I don’t need a chick magnet. I’ve got myself a woman. A woman who is now very happy because I bought her a damn puppy.”

“Hey, don’t say ‘damn’ in front of the kid.” Caroline frowns at me.

A loud laugh bursts out of Ethan as he slaps my shoulder. “Oh, you have no idea what you’ve gotten yourself into, dude.”

I watch him walk into the kitchen, still cracking up, before turning back to the couch. Caroline is grinning at me, and I tip my head toward the stairs. “Wanna see his setup? I’ve got him a bed and everything.”

“Okay.” She jumps up, taking the dog from Rachel and carrying him upstairs. He’s making these cute little squeaks, and I’m pretty sure my heart is turning to putty on the spot.

Caroline is so fucking happy right now, and our little guy is all kinds of adorable.

I don’t care what the guys say, we’re gonna be great doggy parents.

People might call me stupid for launching into something like this so quickly, but I know without a doubt that Caroline’s my woman for life. I might not be proposing to her right now, but I’m showing her that I’m not afraid to be a one-woman guy anymore, that we can handle raising a dog together, and one day… maybe we can raise some kids too.

Fuck, I never thought I’d be the kind of guy to think that way, but she’s given me the courage to believe it’s possible.

The day she told me she was pregnant, I thought my life was over.

I didn’t realize it was only just beginning.
