“You’re gonna be great.”

“I know.” He glances away from me, staring out across the grassy lawn.

“Casey.” I touch his cheek and force him to look back at me. “You’re gonna be amazing. The Cougars are going to win, and we’ll party hard tonight, baby.”

This makes him laugh, and I’m stoked that I’ve been able to cut through his tension.

“I’ll be in the stands cheering you on. I’ll be your loudest supporter, I swear.”

He grins, kissing the tip of my nose.

“And after the game… and the party… we’ll celebrate all over again. You know, in our own special way.” I wink at him and lean up to give him a little preview.

My kiss is deep and alluring; I can tell by the way he stiffens against my hip.

I pull away with an indulgent smile, and he shakes his head. “The things you do to me, woman.”

“The things you do to me, man.” I raise my eyebrows at him.

And then his watch starts beeping. With a groan, he turns off his alarm. “My next class starts in about fifteen minutes. I’m just gonna run to the bathroom and then take my sweet time saying goodbye to my luscious lady.”

“Okay.” I stand up, biting my lips against a laugh as he adjusts himself and tries to hide his semi before walking off to the bathroom.

Leaning against the tree, I wait for him, smiling to myself as I relive the cuteness of our time together. We must have looked like a legit couple in love to anyone walking past.

You are a legit couple.

In love?

Well, I sure am.

My wistful sigh is cut off when I spot someone coming toward me. He’s got the biggest smile on his face as he breaks into a jog and stops in front of me before I’ve fully registered who it is.

Oh shit!

Ben.

“Hey.” He’s staring down at me like I’m his favorite flower.

Oh shit.

I forgot how tall he is. Tall and broad. Underneath that sweater he’s wearing are long, muscular arms. His hands are huge, and I can remember his fingers curling around my hips.

Fuck! This is so bad!

My eyes dart to the law building as I frantically try to figure out how I’m going to get rid of him before Casey gets back. The last thing my boyfriend needs before his big game is this kind of drama.

“B-Ben.” I catch some wayward hairs that blow across my cheek, tucking them behind my ear as a cool breeze races up my spine.

“It’s so good to see you.” His eyes are dancing with this awe-filled joy as he drinks me in.

“Oh, yeah. Nice… nice to see you too.”

“I’ve been looking for you everywhere, but we’ve kept missing each other. Did your roommate tell you I stopped by?”

“Um… yep.” I nod and force a polite smile, scrambling for a good excuse to get out of this conversation.

I can’t tell him right now.
