“Fuck,” Max cursed.

“The wife. Absolutely fantastic,” Angelina fumed.

Ben made her the other woman. It was one thing to think you are, but it is an entirely different feeling when you’re confronted with the proof on your front porch.

“I will leave this with you,” Jenna handed Angelina a picture. “He wanted a picture of our baby. Since he wasn’t in any of his usual places, I had to track him down. Tell him he shouldn’t use his bank card if he doesn’t want to be found.”

Angelina held the paper in her hand. It was a printout from an ultrasound. Jenna was pregnant with Ben’s child. His wife was pregnant with their child, and he was sleeping with her.

“If he comes back, which I don’t expect him to, we will let him know you stopped by. We’ll make sure he gets the picture.” Jake stepped up, holding Angelina to his side. Max stood beside her on the other side. Under the hurt and rage, a hollowness started to consume her.

“If it is any consolation, you are cuter than the last one.” Jenna flashed a fake smile. “It doesn’t look like you’ll miss him for long. I love what you have going on here,” she said as she gestured toward the three of them. “Good for you, girl. Put him in his place. Ben has my number. Be a doll and have him call me when he gets back.” With that, Jenna turned and walked gracefully to her car.

Angelina couldn’t take her eyes off the picture. It was proof of the life Ben created with Jenna. Their child wasn’t any bigger than a jellybean. For having no family, he was well on his way to becoming a daddy.

He lied. Ben lied about everything. His wife must be used to him running around on her if she knew how to track his bank card.

“Angelina,” Jake took her in his arms as Max closed the door. “Oh, sweetness, I am so sorry he did this to you.”

“He isn’t coming back here,” Max fumed.

“Ben isn’t coming back,” she said numbly. “He took all his stuff. There is no reason to. He got what he wanted. He will be on to his next conquest.”

“What do you need us to do for you?” Jake whispered.

“Unless you can find a way to turn back time, there isn’t anything that can be done to fix this.”

“Why wasn’t she pissed?” Max muttered, deep in thought.

“What?” Jake asked.

“Think about it,” Max started to pace. “If she were truly the scorned wife, she would have been pissed, ripping the place apart looking for the bastard that got her pregnant and split. She wasn’t. The woman stood on the porch talking rationally with a smug smile on her botoxed face.”

“She was a bitch.”

“True, but she was calm.”

“Maybe she is medicated,” Angelina shrugged. “I have no idea. Right now, I can’t find the strength to care.”

“Can’t have a lot of meds when you are pregnant,” Max shook his head. “She wasn’t showing, and those pants were tight enough to see if she had even the smallest bump.”

“How do you know all this stuff?” Angelina marveled. Her thumb idly stroked the bean in the picture.

“We are thinking about adopting,” Jake confessed. “We have been reading books about pregnancy and babies.”

“Is the picture real?”

Angelina didn’t bother to answer. She handed the picture to Max. He could decide for himself. Max was skeptical. She wasn’t sure if it was bro code or what, but he could think whatever he wanted. Facts were facts. Ben knew about the baby and asked for a picture. Jenna knew how to track him from his banking activity. She had access to his account at some point in their life together.

He lied about having a family.

He lied about her being his.

He lied about loving her.

Lied. Lied. Lied.

“Alcohol or tea?” Jake asked as he pushed her to sit on the couch.
