“Let’s get this over with.”

Rose opened her car door and stepped out into the cool morning air.

“Where is Lucas?”

“Damn, Rosey,” Roach drooled. “You looked hot last night, but you could start a fire this morning.”

“Bug boy, I don’t have time for your shit this morning,” Rose fired back. “Where is my brother? If he is already in the dumpster, I’m going home. Good luck getting someone to repay those damages because the deal was he has to be alive for me to hold up my end.”

“You should show a little respect,” Vulture said from behind her.

Rose jumped away from the scowling man. They were both big enough to snap her in half and silent when they wanted to be. Must be a thing for these guys. Looking around, Rose noticed how big they all looked. The group closed in around her. Menacing, tattooed, and not afraid of anything, they had intimidation down pat.

“Birdy, did you not get any last night? Do you need a coffee, or is this cranky pain in the ass attitude your normal?” Rose sassed, crossing her arms over her chest, staring Vulture down with more bravado than she felt.

“If you keep calling them bug and birdy, we are going to have to pick a name for you.”

Rose whirled around to see the president of the group behind her. Tank held Lucas up by the collar of his shirt. The bruises on his face had deepened to an array of dark purples and black. His eyes were both swollen shut, and his nose was crooked.

“You didn’t even put his nose in place?”

Roach stomped over and took Lucas’ nose between his thumbs. With a quick jerk of his hands and a scream from Lucas, Roach walked away.

“Thank you, Bug.”

“Time to move out,” Tank roared.

Rose watched as men piled into trucks and a bus. She wasn’t sure where they acquired a bus overnight, but it made sense. Lots of people all going to the same place made a bus useful. The truck pulled a flatbed trailer that held the remains of the bikes Lucas damaged.

“Phone,” Tank demanded.

“Bunny, that wasn’t part of the deal.”

“You said you wanted a phone. You never said it had to be your phone.”

He held out his hand for her phone.

“When do I get another phone?”

“I got you a burner.”

Letting her brother fall to the pavement, he fished the phone out of his pocket and handed it to her.

“How thoughtful,” Rose drawled.

“You changing your mind?”

“Nope.”

Rose handed over her phone and took the new one.

“His number and mine are the only numbers programmed in there. It better stay that way. I call, you answer. No matter what. Understand?”

“Yes.”

“Good girl.”

“Not sure forty classifies as a girl.”
