I’ve also not have been back to work since I left. Marie understood and she has already hired a few girls.

There is a knock on the front door. I walk over and open it to see it’s Naomi and she looks distressed.

“What’s the matter?” I ask her and pull her into the house and out of the cold. She hands me her phone and I see it’s a text message. “Penny is my daughter. She is not yours. Leave or I will take her from Royal.”

“First thing, don’t listen to this Naomi; I know that Royal has raised that little girl all on his own. She has not been involved.”

Her face falls to the ground. “She is such a precious little girl. She deserves to have the best life and I don’t want to cause any issues for her.”

I pull her into a hug, hating to see that she is so sad. “Penny needs you. She is getting older, and she needs a woman in her life to help encourage her and lead her through life.”

She bursts into tears. “I’m so happy, and this is the first time really in my whole life.” She pulls back. “Royal is just amazing, so kind to me and Donavan. I’ve fallen for him, and now I’m terrified that I will lose that.”

She doesn’t know that Royal has come up behind us at one point and has been eavesdropping. I should have warned her, but I feel like he should know her feelings.

“You won’t lose me, and that bitch will regret texting you.”

She gasps and spins around to face him. He takes her hand and pulls her to him. “If you left me, I would find your ass and drag you back. You are mine; you and Donavan stay with me and Penny.”

She wipes her face with the back of her hands. “I just don’t want to cause any pain.”

He sighs, shaking his head. “Nothing can compare to the pain of us losing you.”

That takes my breath away and I’m one second away from bawling like a baby because of his sweet words.

He holds her close, and the tears fall.

They look at me confused as to why I’m so emotional. “It’s just beautiful.” Naomi snorts with laughter, and that brings me into tears and laughter at the same time.

Terror walks into the open room. “Why is she crying?” he demands, and I cry even harder because of his sweet concern.

Naomi has a sudden change on her face. “I think you need to get a test,” she whispers to me, and I swear I almost fall over. She and Royal head back out the door while Terror and I stare at one another.

There is no way that could be possible so quickly. Right? Plus, if I were, it would be super early.

I tend to be super emotional when it comes to my periods anyway, so it’s more than likely that.

Terror heard her though and I’m swept off my feet and carried straight to our bathroom. “I’m probably not pregnant, Terror; it would be too early to even tell.”

He doesn’t speak, just tears open the cabinet where we store the washcloths and towels and at the back of the cabinet, he pulls out a pregnancy test.

What the heck?

“Wait, when did you get that?” I ask, shocked that he would buy something like that. Isn’t it a rule that women buy them and take them in secret?

Not Terror. He is so different than any of my expectations. “I wanted to make sure we had one on hand in case we had a suspicion at any point.”

I laugh. “Well, I guess I’m peeing on a stick.”

He opens the box and starts reading the small little pamphlet inside, then sitting me on the side of the counter.

He explains what I need to do, and I let him. It makes me excited that he is this excited. I love that he wants to be involved.

I go to take the test and I make him leave so I can pee in peace, but I know he didn’t go far.

“Did you pee yet?” he asks when I turn on the water so he can’t hear me. I finish and wash my hands, then open the door for him before he breaks it down.

He eyes the pregnancy test like he is expecting it to jump off the counter at any second.
