“Kieran, why is Bash at my house?” I grit out.
He sighs. “Maybe he likes you. Maybe he’s trying to protect you and keep you safe in his own twisted, overbearing way. And before you get all pissy about it, maybe you need to admit you like him too. Because you do. I saw it this morning.”
That fluttering returns to my tummy. Bash likes me? That’s not possible. Maybe he wants to fuck me. That would be more likely. I don’t do flings, though. I’m too emotional and needy. Plus, I have no doubt that if I had sex with Bash one time, I’d catch feelings, and it would be a disaster. Hell, I think I already have feelings that I have no business having.
“He doesn’t like me,” I insist.
“Yes, he does. I spoke with him about it. Look, you’re my sister, and I love you, but you need someone like Bash. He’ll take care of you. Even if you don’t like the way he does it sometimes.”
I stare at the dash of my car, trying to figure out what he means. I have a feeling there are a lot of layers to that statement.
“If he likes me, it’s only because he wants to hop into bed with me.”
That’s all any guy has ever wanted to do. Once they see my scars and how fucked up I am, they want nothing more to do with me. That’s why it’s been two years since I’ve had sex with anything other than my vibrator.
“If that’s all he wanted with you, I wouldn’t have given him my blessing. I’m going to ask you something, and I want the honest truth. Promise?”
My shoulders drop. I’m not going to like his question, but I love him and I want us to be closer. “Promise.”
“You’ve known Bash for years. Maybe not as a close friend, but you’ve been around him and seen the kind of man he is. So, despite his strong-armed approach, do you like him? Do you find him attractive? Do you want a man who will take care of you and always put you first?”
I let out a huff and shake my head. “I don’t think I want to answer that question.”
“Then you have your answer right there, Little one.”
Stupid brothers. Stupid Bash.

BASH
Paisley hasn’t stopped pacing since I arrived with Wolf, Colt, and Angel. When we first got here, she went paler than she already was, and I thought she was going to pass out. I wonder if Chloe told her what I do for a living. Even though I would never hurt her, the fear worked in my favor because she let me into the house.
When I told her what I was there for, she tried to talk me out of it, but I was too busy telling Colt where I wanted the cameras to listen. Whether Paisley realizes it or not, all this security stuff is here to keep her safe too. If I had my way, I would have shown up with a moving company and had both women moved into one of my houses by morning. Since things are so new, I figured that might be taking it a step too far. Maybe next week. After Chloe has time to adjust to the changes she’s about to experience in her life.
My phone rings shortly after I end the call with Chloe and, when I see Kieran’s name on the caller ID, I grin.
“She must have called you.”
“Aye. She’s as mad as a hornet.”
Wolf installs a third deadbolt into the front door, and I lean against the wall. “Am I going too far?”
“Probably. At least she knows there’s a camera system going in. Cali didn’t have a clue Declan was watching her before they got together. So, there is that.”
We chuckle. We don’t understand the concept of boundaries. Especially when it comes to the women we want. And I want Chloe. She’s going to fight me, test me, and probably piss me off, but I’m going to love every minute of it.
“You have your bulletproof vest in your car? Might want to put it on,” Kieran says.
“Does she have a fucking gun?”
“Aye. I gave her one on her twenty-first birthday. Didn’t want her going out partying without protection.”
Shit. I probably need to find it before she gets home. Although, I’m glad she has it, and I’m grateful to Kieran for making sure she was as safe as possible.
“Thanks for the heads up.”
As I end the call, Chloe storms in, pushing the front door open so hard, it nearly hits Wolf in the face.
