“Oh, sorry!” Her eyes widen as she takes him in.

My girl. Mad as hell but still apologizing for almost hurting someone. Cute little thing.

Wolf grins at her. “No problem, Little one. The one you want to hit is over there.”

Her gaze follows the direction of his thumb. When her eyes land on me, she stomps over and puts her cute little hands on her hips. “What are you doing, Sebastian? Seriously? What the fuck?”

Without a word, I flip her over my shoulder and band my arm around her thighs.

“What the hell!” she squeals and hits me in the back several times.

Taking the stairs two at a time, I go into her bedroom and toss her onto the bed. “Remember what I said about saying naughty words? Do you know what happens to Little girls who curse? Their Daddies punish them.”

Her pupils go wide and her mouth falls slack. When she presses her thighs together, I smirk and prowl toward her.

“You’re not my Daddy, and you can’t punish me.” She lifts her chin defiantly, and I love it. My strong girl.

I press my knee between her legs, so she’s forced to open her thighs. Then I lower myself to hover over her, my hands resting on either side of her head. The defiance disappears, replaced with heavy breathing as she bites down on her bottom lip.

“I might not be your Daddy yet. But I want to be. And you might argue about me punishing you, but we both know you want it. Hell, I think you crave it. Every time I talk about it, your body tells me so.”

She shakes her head. “Does not.”

Using my thumb, I stroke her cheek. She leans into my touch, and when I rub the tip over her plush lips, her eyes close. I don’t like it. I want her to see exactly who’s touching her.

“Look at me, baby.” When she obeys, I smile at her. “Good girl.”

As if she suddenly remembers that she’s pissed at me, she shoves at my chest. I don’t budge, and her face scrunches up in irritation.

“Get off me,” she says breathlessly.

“Say please.” I grin.

She huffs and shakes her head. “You’re a big jerk.”

“Baby, I’m more than a jerk. But I’m your jerk now. Fight it all you want, but I’m not going anywhere.”

Something flashes in her eyes. Doubt maybe. Like she doesn’t believe me. Silly girl. She’ll learn. As quickly as it comes, it disappears, and she’s back to glaring at me.

“I don’t understand what’s happening, Bash. Why are you here? Why are there three terrifying mobsters downstairs installing stuff?”

“They aren’t mobsters.”

She shoots me an exasperated look. “Okay, whatever. Why are you here?”

“Because the first time I met you on your eighteenth birthday, I was entranced. I have never had a reaction to a woman the way I did to you. When your brother introduced us and we shook hands, I felt like I’d been hit by lightning.” I stare at her for several beats. “Do you remember the night of your parents’ anniversary party?”

“Yes. Of course, I do. It was right before my mom got sick.”

“That night, I was going to find a bathroom, and I overheard you talking to one of your friends. It actually might have been Paisley. I wasn’t paying attention to her. You were crying, and you told her you wanted one of the guys at the party to leave because he wasn’t getting the hint that you weren’t interested. You told her you were tired of being around men you didn’t feel safe with. Do you remember that?”

Her gaze travels over my face. “When I went back to the party, the guy was gone. I never heard from him again.”

“So, tell me this, Chloe. Do you feel safe with me?”

We stare at each other for a long moment before she gives a slight nod and whispers, “Yes.”

“Do you know why you never heard from that guy again?”
