“Yeah, it helps a lot.”

I won’t forget that as long as I’m alive. Not for a single, damn day.

If you would have toldme as I lay on my office floor with my back spasming that in a year time, I would be experiencing love so profound it would simply erase everything I have done wrong in my life, reset the clock, and give me a second chance, I would have called you a lunatic.

However, today, I have the woman I love and all three of my children all under one roof.

I insisted Sonia stay with me after her release from the hospital.

Thank god, she was amenable to that.

I’m not sure I ever want her out of my sight again after what happened at the club. That’s something I’ll have to work through.

Nate, of course, is still staying with me, along with Laney.

And, tonight, Abigail and Jack have come to visit for a big family dinner.

The club has been far from my mind these past few weeks, which was a mistake given what happened. Though I’ve avoided talking with Sonia about it apart from the onepolice interview I was privy to when they visited her in the hospital, I have been working behind the scenes to figure out what the hell happened and who is responsible for it.

Solomon has been leading the inquiry with employees while I sort out things with security.

I’ve been furious with Lourdes and the security team, even more so when they said that the security footage from the time of the crime displayed no one on the premises.

However, for the first time in my life, I put all that aside in order to take care of my family.

It is a motley crew, that is for sure, but there is a love and appreciation in the air for what we have.

We all know how easy it is to lose.

Two close calls in the matter of a few weeks. The fact we survived still intact and closer than ever is a miracle. To be around the table together sharing a homecooked meal, by a chef, but still, is the greatest honor of my life.

Sonia sits by my side. It puts a warm feeling in my chest to be at the head of a table surrounded by my family.

It’s never been like this. Even a meal with my children. All three of them together has been a rarity throughout the course of their lives.

And I never had one of their mothers to sit beside me. Or a girlfriend or wife.

For once, we arenormal.Oddities in how Sonia and I came together notwithstanding. And that we are also joined by my son’s live-in PT.

It’s our version of normal and that’s good enough for me.

Sonia puts her fork down and sighs. Her plate is still full. “I can barely eat.”

“Yeah, the meds will do that to you.” Nate eyes a forkful of spinach, leaning his elbow on the table.

I have noticed he’s lost a lot of muscle over the course of his rehabilitation.

Right now, all we care about is him walking again. The muscles will come back with time.

I smile at Sonia. “You don’t have to clean your plate.”

She pouts. “It’s delicious, though.”

“There will be plenty of delicious meals in the future, I promise.” I place my hand over hers across the table.
