I’ve never been the best at words. Never been the best at actions either. Perhaps I’m not meant for anything if I can’t accomplish one or the other.

She wipes away the sticky tracks of tears with the back of her hand. “I really hope this won’t change–”

“I don’t see you any differently.” Which is true. I see her just as I did before. Someone I want with a primal need I can’t seem to tame. “I’m sorry if I…made you uncomfortable.”

Sonia shakes her head. “No, no, not at all. I feel…”

I suck in a breath. The pause in her answer almost kills me with anticipation. Her answer means the world to me.

“Safe around you, Edwin. Seriously.”

Safe. I make her feelsafe.

On the one hand, that’s a good thing. On the other, makes me feel a bit like I’m her dad. And that’s a great reminder that she’s the same age as my eldest son. She works under me, and I need to be a leader for her. Not someone kissing her when she cries and thinking about fucking her on the floor of her office without any sense of decorum.

She pushes herself back up into her chair. “Don’t worry about me.”

I follow suit, getting to my feet. I don’t want to look like I’m begging for her on my knees.

Unless she’d like that…

“I will, but I will try not to.” I smile and give her a curt nod.

Sonia smiles back. Delicious, closed lips I could kiss again and again and again if circumstances weren’t what they are.

“Thank you, Edwin.”

I leave her office, making sure the door stays closed behind me, and then skid to a stop.

Shit. I was supposed to bring her with me. Can’t go back now, though, that’d be too awkward.

I walk away from Sonia’s office with my head ducked while I try and come up with a fib about why she’s not with me to tell Farley.

All the way back, my lips are still vibrating from her kiss.

SONIA

I don’t spendmuch time in the nightclub, but Farley, Hazel, and a few others invited me to stay for a drink after my shift. It’s been weeks since I’ve done anything social, which is my fault for being a workaholic, so I thought, what the hell? Nothing is more convenient than having a drink at my workplace. Especially in the VIP lounge area.

Hazel looks at all of us and the corner of her mouth upturns. “I had a guy proposition me.”

I blink. “You’re not supposed to talk about what happens in scenes, Hazel.”

She laughs. “That’s just it! It wasn’t in a scene. It wasn’t even in the club. That’s why it is so funny. He asked me if I needed a Daddy.”

My chin almost hits the floor. “You’re serious? Who was he?”

“I’m very serious. Picture this.” She leans forward, and we all lean in too. “I’m at the supermarket, and I’m wearing an outfit I sometimes wear at home when I’m feeling little.”

She shakes her head as she smirks. “Before you ask, youknow I’m only comfortable showing that side of me here, so I have no idea what I was thinking.”

“You were thinking you wanted to feel good about yourself, so nothing wrong with that. You do you, boo,” Farley says.

“Yass, girl.” Gina snaps her fingers and laughs, so we all join in.

“What happened next?” I’m so curious.
