I don’t think I could ever be brave enough to do what they do, either here or anywhere else, though I am more than a little curious about some parts of the lifestyle.

Hazel takes a sip of her drink. “I said yes and asked if he was offering.”

Farley shakes his head as he empties his glass. “Girl, you are a menace.”

With his hand, he signals the bartender to get us another round.

My glass is still half-full, so I drink some of it from the straw. “Why would you do that?”

She works here as a sub, so wouldn’t that be something a lover might frown upon?

“Because…” Her cheeks turn red, and her eyes go to her glass.

Gina starts chanting, “Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod.”

“WHAT?” Farley and I shout together.

Gina looks at us and, points her finger at Hazel. “You guys, she likes him. She likes the Daddy guy.” Facing Hazel, she adds, “Don’t you?”

Taking a draw from her straw, she nods, and her cheeks go even redder.

“What did he say?” Farley is almost on top of the table now. “Was he serious or just trying to start up a conversation?”

“He was serious,” she whispers. “He said if the position is open, he’d very much like to apply and that he always dreamed of having a little princess like me."

Her smile is huge now, and Farley and Gina are jumping in their seats.

As I lean down to catch the straw of my gin and tonic between my lips, all my thoughts are about my life and how I wish the universe would throw me a bone too.

As I sip, I survey the room, trying to avoid the joy at the table. I’m really happy for Hazel. I just feel bad for myself as well. Why can’t I be propositioned by someone too?

And I know just the someone I’d love would do the propositioning.

My eyes fall on something that has me doing a double-take.

A sight I’d rather not see.

It’s Edwin. And he’s not alone. There’s a woman draped in the tiniest bit of scarlet fabric glomming onto his arm. The two of them are talking very close up against the back wall.

She grabs his arm, hoisting herself up toward his ear.

As I watch, a smile spreads across his face.

I think I’m going to be sick.

Since our kiss last week, my body has been in overdrive with want for Edwin.

I knew the wall between employer and employee was growing weaker, I just didn’t expect it to start crumbling so soon after I decided Nate wasn’t enough of a deterrent.

That’s why I pushed Edwin away. I knew that if I didn’t stop it, all would be lost and we’d be…

Well, who knows. It’s easier to be heartbroken over one kiss rather than going all the way with someone only to be destroyed at the end.

I would much rather have called it quits then than sleep with Edwin only for him to turn around and say, “That was great but can never happen again.”

That doesn’t mean I don’t still want him. Or that I don’t have regrets.

And watching him with this blonde model on his arm just proves the fact even more that I want him so badly I might explode.
