That’s what we said about the cabin. But did it? No, it didn’t stay at the cabin.
Nate and Mason dragged it all back with them, their obsession with me.
Oh god, I miss how obsessed they were with me. Miss going from Nate’s lips to Mason’s and back again.
I miss them.
I miss them so much.
My heart is so empty without them.
Deep breath. In. Out. “Okay. This is what happened.”
I explain everything. The cabin. Nate and me. Mason and me. The watching. The switching night to night who I spent time with.
The three of them sit rapt with every detail.
I don’t stop even when the kind older woman comes by with scones and finger sandwiches for us to eat.
I can tell her ear is turned toward what I’m saying.
Fine. I’ll give her a good story to tell the people in the kitchen. My whole life is a joke, anyway, might as well be to all the strangers I come across too.
“Wow, so you were just like…getting yours,” Abigail says with big eyes.
I wince. “You could say that.”
Sonia comes to my rescue. “But it wasn’t just sex, right? I mean, you’re using the ‘L’ word.”
I pause. Time for the climax of my cabin story. “The final day we were there, we went for this hike. And we ended up…”
Bridget clocks what I’m about to say first. “Oh my god.”
“All of us…”
Abigail lurches forward, her red hair narrowly missing the bowl of clotted cream. “Together?!”
I cover my face with my hands and nod. “Uh-huh.”
“Oh my gosh, how would thatwork?” Bridget asks.
Sonia giggles, “There are ways, I assure you.”
Bridget gasps. “Have you had a threesome, Sonia?”
“Don’t talk about threesomes you’ve had with my dad, pleaseGod,” Abigail wails.
“It’s not like we’re not talking about your brother,” Bridget says.
Abigail shudders. “Don’t remind me.”
“You guys. Please, I know it’s weird–”
Sonia interrupts. “It doesn’t sound weird. It sounds like you were all consenting adults who were enjoying each other’s company and…right?”
I guess she has a point.
